CrossFitter Elly Kabboord Suspended Four Years for Clenbuterol Positive

Elly Kabboord, a member of Team CrossFit Mayhem in Cookeville (Tennessee), has officially been suspended for an anti-doping rule violation according to CrossFit, Inc. CrossFit announced the four-year suspension after Kabboord tested positive for clenbuterol in violation of the CrossFit Drug Testing Poliy.
Kabboord’s clenbuterol positive resulted for an in-competition urine sample collected at the Reykjavik CrossFit Championship on May 4, 2019. Kabboord had previously notified her social media followers of the failed drug test on the Rich Froning & Friends podcast broadcast on the CrossFit Mayhem YouTube channel on June 14, 2019.

Elly Kabboord refused to admit using clenbuterol. She blamed a dietary supplement instead.

Kabboord adamantly denied knowingly using clenbuterol. She speculated that clenbuterol must have entered her body via the consumption of contaminated meat products or dietary supplements. Kabboord believed the contaminated products were purchased and consumed in Iceland.
Kabboord submitted an official appeal of the adverse analytical positive. But CrossFit was not convinced. CrossFit rejected the appeal citing its “strict liability” policy.
“Kabboord submitted an appeal, citing meat contamination,” according to a statement released by CrossFit, Inc. “This appeal was denied after consulting with the Icelandic Anti-Doping Organization and Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority.”
Kabboord was only ranked at 194th in the United States and 311th internationally in the Individual Women’s division in 2017. However, Kabboord had far more success as a member of the CrossFit Mayhem Freedom and CrossFit Mayhem Independence teams.
Team CrossFit Mayhem Freedom won the Central Regional CrossFit Championships in 2016 and 2017. It also placed 1st and 2nd at the 2016 and 2017 CrossFit Games. Team CrossFit Mayhem Independence placed 4that the 2019 CrossFit Games.
Kabboord will be eligible to return to CrossFit competition on May 4, 2023.
