Derek Lunsford, the reigning Mr. Olympia, takes us behind the scenes as he dials in for the 2025 Olympia, just five weeks out. His weekend included stops at the IFBB Pro League headquarters in Pittsburgh and the legendary Bev Francis Powerhouse Gym in New York, both critical steps in his prep.

At IFBB HQ, Derek highlights the importance of experimenting with training gear, posing, and refining the small details that can make or break a physique on stage. He stresses that getting in front of the judges before a big show is invaluable—not just for pros but for all competitors in the NPC and IFBB Pro League.

In New York at Bev’s Gym, Derek trained with fellow elite athletes, including Ramon and Eric, pushing through an intense lower-body session. Despite the fatigue of higher cardio and lower food intake, Derek focused on controlled volume, squeezing every rep, and leaving nothing in the tank. He describes the atmosphere at Bev’s as motivating, helping him break routine and sharpen his edge.

He also emphasized why posing feedback from head judge Steve Weinberger is critical—training and diet set the foundation, but perfect presentation decides placings. Derek urges competitors of all levels to take advantage of these opportunities.

The workout intensity was off the charts—every set pushed to failure, every rep fueled by purpose. The camaraderie and energy shared with his training partners created “memories for life,” as Derek puts it.

This video shows what true Olympia prep looks like: sacrifice, feedback, and relentless drive.
