When I'm working with serious endurance athletes, cyclists, runners, and triathletes, I pay close attention to blood lactate during training. But I'll be honest with you. If you're training just for general fitness or muscle, this usually isn't worth the cost or the hassle. Lactate testing is a tool, not a requirement. Changes to Practical Training Based on Lactate Data​

With your own lactate threshold zones, you may make three quick changes to make your training more successful.

First, change how much power you put out at intervals. If the amount of lactate builds up too much, lower the intensity by 5–10% to keep the aerobic advantages. On the other hand, if you're not reaching your threshold, slowly increase your effort.

Second, use data from interval assessments to find the best balance between work and rest. High lactate levels mean that you didn't have enough time to recuperate between exertions. Increase the length of rest periods until lactate levels are low enough for the next intervals.

Third, keep an eye on lactate drift during steady-state efforts to see how well your body is adapting to endurance. When lactate levels go down at the same intensity, it means that your aerobic capacity has improved. This process lets you gradually increase the amount of work you do while still keeping your metabolism working well.

This way, you may keep getting fitter without going too far.
