Insulin may stimulate muscle growth as well as fluid retention.

Insulin is a hormone that governs the body's glucose metabolism. When you consume carbs, your body transforms them into glucose, which may either be utilized for energy or stored in muscle tissue as glycogen. Insulin stimulates glucose absorption and storage in muscle tissue, which may result in increased muscle growth over time. Furthermore, insulin may increase protein synthesis, the process by which cells create new proteins, which can aid in muscle development.

Insulin, on the other hand, may cause fluid retention in the body. When insulin levels are high, the kidneys retain more salt, resulting in increased water retention and edema throughout the body. This is why some individuals who take insulin may gain weight even though they are not necessarily gaining muscle mass.

In conclusion, insulin promotes muscle building by increasing glucose absorption and storage and driving protein synthesis, but it may also increase fluid retention, which can contribute to weight gain.
