It is extremely scary and I am not looking forward to the repercussions. Nixon had to get rid of the "gold standard" though. During the Arab Oil embargo the British wanted to exchange all their US dollars for gold. If we didn't end the gold standard we would have been bankrupt then. But now we do this and bankrupt ourselves anyway.... one reaction comes to mind

The gold standard was as much about the American economy as it was about being able to trade currency on the stock market for people to make money trading currency.

The more I look at the stock exchange the more I see a system set up to make imaginary money.
