This surprises you? Since the end of WW II the Military Industrial Complex has been the largest receiver of the US budget and has only grown more and more throughout. The only country who rivaled us was the Soviet Union and that ended after the Cold War was over.

No surprise at all in this graph.

what other country has all those aircraft carriers? (us has like 13 the other countries dont even near 5 i i`m not mistaken)

percentage wise of GDP alot of countries spend more than the US though, but the US economy is so fucking huge that 3-4% constitutes a shitload. both russia and china spends the same % of GDP on military, but offc their economies are alot smaller.

I fully support the US having the largest military in the world. I would have no problem with them spending $500Billion on the military, if the military was only used within the US borders. Hell, I'd support the idea of completely lining our borders with tanks, soldiers, etc. 365 days a year.

The problem is, we are spending billions on the military because we have bases all over the world for no reason. If we'd close all our bases and bring the US troops back home, the military wouldn't need so much money. And this country would be much safer.
