Hillang Yajik Wins Gold and Silver at 15th South Asian Bodybuilding Championship 2025

In a landmark moment for Indian sports and women’s bodybuilding, Hillang Yajik from Kurung Kumey, Arunachal Pradesh, made national headlines after winning gold and silver medals at the 15th South Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships 2025 held in Thimphu, Bhutan from June 11 to 15. At just 25, Yajik has become the first female athlete from Arunachal Pradesh to ever clinch international gold in bodybuilding.

Rising From the Northeast: A Symbol of Determination and Grit

Hillang Yajik’s journey began in the remote district of Kurung Kumey—a region rarely spotlighted in Indian sports media. From overcoming infrastructure challenges to competing on the global stage, her rise mirrors the sheer tenacity it takes for athletes from India’s Northeast to break into elite circles.

After being selected by the Indian Body Builders Federation and Bodybuilding Association of Kerala through rigorous trials held in Ernakulam, she went on to represent India in prestigious events like the 56th Asian Bodybuilding & Physique Sports Championship and the 15th WBPF World Championship.

Social Media Statement After Victory

Following her emotional victory in Bhutan, Hillang Yajik took to Instagram and wrote:

“Last year I failed to win any international medal… though disheartened, I didn’t give up. I worked harder and gave my 110% this time. This medal I dedicate to my nation, my state Arunachal, my coach @primeoptimus_123 and lastly to myself. P.S. More championships are on the way.”
Her message reflects the discipline and perseverance required in competitive physique sports—a sport still developing in India, particularly for women.

Breaking Barriers in Indian Women’s Bodybuilding

Hillang isn’t just a champion—she’s a pioneer. As Arunachal Pradesh’s first female bodybuilder to achieve international gold, she breaks cultural and geographic barriers. Her journey will likely serve as a catalyst for more women from the region to explore bodybuilding as a viable and empowering career.

The Arunachal Bodybuilding Association (ABA) has also recognized her contribution. President Nabam Tuna praised her win as not only a personal success but a national inspiration, stating it "could ignite a new era of interest in the sport."

What’s Next for Hillang Yajik?

With her career now under the international spotlight, Hillang Yajik is poised for further competition on the global stage. Her Instagram hints at upcoming championships, and there’s a strong possibility we’ll see her back in action at the World Championships 2025 or the next Asian Games if bodybuilding categories are included.
