MARTIN COUNTY — A woman identified as a professional fitness figure and “digital influencer” from Canada was arrested after sheriff’s officials reported linking her to a package from Canada with several anabolic steroid type medications, according to recently-released records.
Melissa Kate Bumstead, 30, was arrested Friday after Martin County Sheriff’s Office investigators said she was listed as an “importer” of the drugs from a shipper in Montreal, Quebec. She was arrested on six felony counts of possession of controlled substance without a prescription.
Bumstead is listed as an International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness Figure Pro athlete. Her Instagram profile has 103,000 followers. She also offers a variety of coaching packages on her website, ranging from $350 to $4,000.
The case began at least as early as Sept. 1 when a package in Memphis, Tennessee, got “selected for an extensive exam” by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials. The package, addressed to Bumstead at an address in the 5400 block of Southwest Landing Creek Drive in Palm City, was determined to contain steroids and other prescription medication, records show.
