I remember the last time I had this convo. I started trying to explain genetics to lay people.
Accept the fact that you are a combination of genetics and environment. With crap genetics (or environment) you can't crank up the environment (or genetics) to outweigh the disadvantage. At the minor levels who cares, at the pro levels it is the guys with great genetics that excel.
