Mexican Steroids are Still a Thing for American Bodybuilders

Domestic underground laboratories have largely replaced anabolic steroids imported from Meixco as the main source of anabolics for American bodybuilders.
A 29-year old American citizen was arrested after attempting to smuggle a large quantity of oral and injectable anabolic steroids into the United States from Mexico on the morning of July 6, 2020. The smuggling attempt was thwarted by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the “Bridge of the Americas” border crossing in El Paso, Texas.
CBP officers intercepted 2,256 oral anabolic steroid pills and 29 ten-milliliter vials of injectable anabolic steroids during a secondary inspection of a 2010 Ford F-150 pick-up truck. The primary CBP officer discovered that the suspect had something hidden in his waistband. The suspect originally claimed the pill bottles contained vitamins. A search of the vehicle uncovered a secret compartment where additional steroids were hidden.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection is focused on protecting Americans from the threat of anabolic steroids.

“CBP Officers at the Port of El Paso remain vigilant and focused on all threats in an effort to protect our country and community,” said El Paso Port Director Beverly Good, “Officer experience played a vital role in stopping this attempt to smuggle a large amount of anabolic steroids.”

Mexico was once that primary source of anabolic steroids on the American black market. However, this quickly came to an end after the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) shut down Mexican steroid suppliers during the massive and far-reaching 2005 Operation Gear Grinder.
Operation Gear Grinder forced the American steroid black market to adapt. It resulted in the rise of hundreds of domestic UGLs that imported raw steroid powder from China and manufactured steroids in clandestine locations around the United States.
Domestic UGLs have since become the primary source for steroids in the United States. Operation Raw Deal temporarily disrupted domestic UGLs in 2007. However, the availability of anabolic steroids has never been greater than it has been in recent years.
The availability of domestic UGL steroids combined with the importation of European, Asian and Mexican steroid brands has made the United States a bodybuilder’s dream for steroid access.
