Armed robbers choose poor Santas disguise

POLICE are seeking not one, but two men with white beards and red hats who held up two clubs at knifepoint.

The men robbed the Harold St club and Cutheringa Bowls Club in Townsville on Sunday evening.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brett McLucas said shops selling Christmas costumes might help police catch the men, the Townsville Bulletin reported.

"Both offenders were wearing Santa Claus hats and white beards," Det-Sen-Sgt McLucas said.

As well as the festive attire, One man was described as Aboriginal, one caucasian, and both were in their late teens or early 20s, of slim build and 175cm tall.

Police believed the men had been hanging around the bowls club on Saturday night around closing time in their Santa Claus outfits.

Police appealed for anyone who know of possible suspects wearing or buying Santa outfits in the area to contact police.
