Ailin Perez won against Norma Dumont by unanimous decision at UFC Vegas 121, although the outcome has led to some discussion among MMA fans. All three judges gave Perez 29-28, even though a number of viewers thought that Dumont had performed well enough to win.

There was a lot of tension on September 26 at the Meta APEX event in Las Vegas, both inside and outside the octagon; Dumont has now publicly opposed the decision, whereas Perez celebrated her win and carried on with their fierce rivalry via social media.

Then it's worth asking whether Norma Dumont was robbed or if Perez performed enough to win the match.

Ailin Perez Defeats Norma Dumont at UFC Vegas 121

The feud between Ailin Perez and Norma Dumont was finally brought to a head at the UFC Fight Night: Rosas Jr. vs. Barcelos event on September 26, 2026.

The bantamweight women's fight was the co-headliner at the Meta APEX event in Las Vegas. Perez won the match by a unanimous decision after three rounds, with all three judges giving identical 29-28 scorecards.

Many viewers were surprised since they had thought that Dumont had won the closely contested fight. The dispute soon became one of the event's most discussed topics.

As MMA Fighting summarised the fight, Perez achieved success in the first round, whereas Dumont showed more aggression in the second. It was in the third round that the result was decided.

Norma Dumont and Ailin Perez will face off in a featherweight bout. Dumont is known for her strong clinch work and solid grappling skills. She often uses her strength to push opponents against the cage and wear them down with short strikes and control. Dumont also has a good jab and can land clean shots at range, but she usually prefers to close the distance.

Ailin Perez brings a different style. She likes to move quickly and throw a lot of punches. Perez often works behind a fast jab and mixes in kicks to keep her opponents guessing. She can be aggressive early, but sometimes leaves herself open when she charges forward. Her wrestling is a key part of her game, and she will likely try to take Dumont down if she sees an opening.

This matchup will depend on who can control where the fight happens. Dumont will want to use her clinch and grappling to slow Perez down. Perez will look to use her speed and movement to stay away from the clinch and land strikes from the outside. Both fighters have clear paths to victory, making this an interesting clash of styles.

Norma Dumont vs. Ailin Perez Fight Breakdown

Round 1

Perez made her mark from the start through effective striking and by securing a takedown. Even though Dumont took part in the striking exchanges, Perez's successful grappling efforts in the later stages enabled her to win the first round on the official scorecards.

The three judges gave the round a score of 10 to 9 for Perez.

Round 2

In the second round, Dumont became more aggressive. She blocked Perez's wrestling moves, managed to take him down herself, and landed more accurate punches as the round went on.

MMA Fighting pointed out that Dumont delivered the most important blow of the round in the latter part of the fight. The judges gave her the victory, which resulted in the match being tied at 1-1.

Round 3

The last round was the deciding one.

Perez hit her with a powerful right hand at the beginning and then closed the distance to push Dumont against the fence; during the clinch, she brought her knees into Dumont's body while he kept looking for a chance to strike.

Dumont seemed to have some successes on her feet, but the pressure applied by Perez and the later rounds provided the judges with reasons to decide in favor of her.

The round was awarded to Perez by all three officials, which resulted in a unanimous 29-28 decision.

Why are the fans raising questions about this decision?

The dispute is focused on the third round and the way the judges assessed the fighters' exchanges.

Dumont seemed to pick up speed in the second round, and a number of spectators thought that she was landing the more effective blows in the last round. Others, however, cited Perez's forward pressure, his clinch work, and his body attacks.

The fact that the two parties differ points to a key difference in how MMA rounds are scored: the fighter's general performance is not what decides the outcome. Each round is assessed separately by the judges, who look at effective striking and grappling, and then take into account aggression and control if needed.

Since the fight was competitive and involved only a limited amount of continuous action, the evaluation of the third round became especially controversial.

The fact that there is public disagreement does not prove that the judges made a mistake; the official outcome is still that Perez has won by unanimous decision.

Norma Dumont Rejects the Judges' Decision

Dumont made her feelings clear right after the fight.

In a statement issued after the fight and posted on social media, the Brazilian called the decision one of the greatest absurdities she had seen in MMA and said that she had clearly won the second round whilst believing that Perez didn't do enough to win the third.

She also stated that she was certain to have won, showing that she disagreed with the judges' assessment.

Her remarks intensified the controversy, especially among the fans who had likewise given the fight a positive score.

Ailin Perez Fires Back After UFC Vegas 121

Perez never left the criticism unanswered.

After the fight, she put up a provocative message on Instagram in which she referred to the condoms and the money Dumont had thrown at her during their pre-fight confrontation.

The rivalry had already drawn attention over the course of fight week, and prior to the match Dumont had tossed condoms and money towards Perez during their stare-down, which intensified their personal feud.

The tension remained in the octagon after the final horn had sounded. Perez celebrated her win while Dumont objected to the decision, and the security personnel had to step in order to keep the fighters apart.

The argument that took place after the fight was another major topic of discussion at UFC Vegas 121.

What does the result mean for the two boxers?

As Sherdog's report of September 28 states, the victory has taken Perez's winning streak up to seven consecutive fights, and she has also bolstered her standing in the women's bantamweight division, even though a title opportunity has not yet been confirmed.

For Dumont, this defeat was her second loss in a row after she had earlier secured a six-fight winning streak. While the outcome is a blow to her championship aspirations, her future position will still be determined by her future performances and how she is matched.

The latest reports have not yet arranged a rematch between the two fighters.

Was Norma Dumont Robbed?

The controversy surrounding the decision in the Norma Dumont versus Ailin Perez fight is due to the fact that many of the spectators thought that Dumont should have won since she had landed strong blows and performed well in the second round.

Perez nevertheless won the official decision as a result of the judges' evaluation of all three rounds; she earned this outcome because of her takedown in the first round, the pressure she applied in the last frame, and her performance in the clinch.

The biggest point of disagreement is in Round 3, since the fighters achieved different kinds of success.

At this stage, Perez is still the official winner of the event UFC Vegas 121, although Dumont has refused the decision and the fans are still having a debate about the scorecards.

It makes no difference whether you think that Dumont deserved the decision or that Perez earned it; the result is that all three judges gave the fight a score of 29-28 to Perez and neither a reversal nor a rematch has been announced.

I can see why fans are split on this one because that third round was seriously close. Personally, I had to watch it twice to even feel confident about how I scored it.

That third round ground control was the whole fight. Perez leaning back on her wrestling in the final five minutes completely shut down Dumont's momentum and secured the 29-28s on the official cards, even if a chunk of the fan base saw it the other way.

That was a really close fight to score, but the unanimous 29-28 across all three cards definitely surprised a lot of people. I could see why some had Dumont taking the second and third, but there wasn’t exactly a huge amount of clean action in those rounds either.
