Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama announced Sen. Joseph Biden as his running mate to the nation on Saturday, telling supporters that he is a "leader who is ready to step in and be president."

"For months, I've been looking for a leader to accompany me on this trip and assist me in making Washington work for the American people. I sought a leader who understands the mounting costs that face working people and will always prioritize their ambitions "Obama stated.

"I've returned to Springfield today to inform you that I've found that leader," he remarked.

The rally marks the first time the two have appeared together since Obama revealed Biden, the senior U.S. senator from Delaware, as his running mate on his website and in a text message to supporters early Saturday morning. Video Watch Obama's introduction of his running mate »

Democrats hope that Biden's working-class roots and foreign policy experience would aid Obama, who announced his decision to Biden on Thursday.

Hundreds of fans turned out for Obama's rally in Springfield, Illinois, where he began his candidacy last year. It will be their only public appearance together until the Democratic National Convention in Denver next week. Video Take a look at what Biden would contribute to an Obama presidency »

At Saturday's speech, Biden recalled Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, who was born in Illinois.

"President Lincoln once told us to put your feet in the correct place and then stand firm," said Biden, a Scranton, Pennsylvania native.

Wow good pick, he is one of the few Dems I actually liked. And that is saying a lot because I usually don't find many Democrats I like.

Didn't Barack previously state that he wants a Running Mate that continously offers him constructive critism?
Just curious as to why he'd choose Biden as his RM. Maybe someone care to clarify?
Couldn't find answer elsewhere.

On another note: The latter 2 advertisements did not really make me want to vote for MC Cainburger.

bad choice...
I didn't care who he chose since I'm not voting for him, but I think Biden is pretty interesting to listen to. I do know that Biden is a strong proponent of the war on drugs, so naturally he is a douchebag in my book.

extremely racist too..?

Meh, he's made what I call jokes. How many members here, myself includes, have made countless jokes against black people, women, mexicans, and so on? Pretty much anyone with over 200 posts. It's not just what is said, but even moreso the way things are said, which matters. Like the much publicized Ron Paul newsletters (which I know he didn't write, because i know who did), but those kinds of things weren't acceptable, talking about 711's and shit is in good fun. If Obama were to say that to a group of black people, they'd laugh.

He was picked mostly for his years of experience (not saying this is a good thing, just that somehow people have a hard on for this, despite the fact that many experienced people like McCain, Cheney and others are fucking disastrous at foreign policy). Biden is chair of the senate Foreign Relations Committee, again not saying experience = good policies.

Regardles, except for someone like Cheney, and George Bush the 1st, the vice president typically does very little. Obama will still make an awful president. As will McCain, it's lose lose with either vote.

He's a flaming liberal who stands for pretty much nothing, he'll increase the size of government and it's spending like nobody else. He's just so much of a socialist towards everything, health care, education, etc.. it's pretty much communism.

My biggest issue is the war, so needless to say he's probably the worst as far as this. He's just an overall neo-con scum bag. I think Obama means well, but McCain is just a piece of shit. McCain is pretty much no different than Bush, and he'd continue the uncontrollable spending on foreign wars, government spending, inflation, and so on.

Neither will do what America needs right now, ending the wars, minimizing government spending, lowering taxes, stop printing money, and actually creating affordable health care.
