The Rift Between Rampage Jackson and Dana White​

The tension between Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and UFC CEO Dana White is no secret. Over the years, Jackson has openly criticized White for interfering in sponsorship deals, contractual disputes, and now, making accusations about his alleged steroid use.

In a recent revelation, Jackson shared a striking moment when White directly accused him of using performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) during his training camp for UFC 86 against Forrest Griffin. Jackson did not take these allegations lightly and has now exposed the measures White took to verify his claims.

Dana White's Steroid Accusation Against Rampage Jackson​

Rampage Jackson’s former rival and UFC Hall of Famer, Forrest Griffin, discussed the incident on the JAXXON Podcast. Griffin recalled an encounter between Jackson and Dana White before their UFC 86 fight, in which White outright suspected Jackson of being "juiced to the gills."

According to Jackson, Dana White saw him at the beginning of his training camp and was alarmed by his physical appearance. The former UFC light heavyweight champion recalled the moment White confronted him:

"Before the training camp started [for the Forrest Griffin fight] Dana saw me somewhere. I can’t even remember. It was somewhere in Vegas or something like that. Maybe reading our contract or something. He saw me, and I was off-season [and] I was heavier. He was like, ‘Man, you blow up after your fights,’ and stuff like that. ‘Are you on steroids?'”

Jackson, stunned by the accusation, responded:

"Dana, really? You think I’m on steroids?"

White, however, remained skeptical, stating:

"Only when people are on steroids do they blow up."

UFC's Unprecedented Out-of-Competition Testing​

While UFC fighters are regularly subjected to in-competition drug testing, Jackson revealed that Dana White took extreme measures, ordering an out-of-competition drug test long before the UFC 86 fight. This was highly unusual, as the UFC had never before subjected him—or any other fighter—to such testing months before a fight.

Jackson emphasized this, stating:

"He had me tested months before your fight. He’s never done that before and has never done that since."

At the time, Jackson and Griffin were filming and competing as coaches on The Ultimate Fighter 7, making White's extra scrutiny even more perplexing. Despite the additional testing, Jackson never failed a drug test and has remained vocal about his frustration with White's accusations.

Dana White Allegedly Wanted Forrest Griffin to Win​

The controversy didn’t stop at steroid accusations. Jackson also accused Dana White of favoring Griffin over him in the lead-up to their fight. According to Jackson, White placed his bets on Griffin winning the light heavyweight title at UFC 86, leading Jackson to believe he had fallen out of favor with the UFC president.

Jackson explained:

"Are you and Dana [White] best friends?… He loves you, man… [After the drug test] I was like, ‘You the golden goose’… Yeah, you the golden goose."

Griffin went on to win the fight via unanimous decision, claiming the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. Despite this, both Jackson and Griffin built legendary careers, with Griffin securing his place in the UFC Hall of Fame and Jackson continuing to make headlines in MMA circles.

The Bigger Issue: UFC's Handling of Fighters and PED Accusations​

Jackson’s case raises concerns about how the UFC handles drug accusations against fighters. While organizations like USADA have worked alongside the UFC to implement stricter drug-testing policies, accusations without evidence can tarnish a fighter’s reputation.

In Jackson's case, White’s public suspicion and unprecedented drug testing created unnecessary scrutiny, despite Jackson never failing a test. This brings into question the transparency and consistency of the UFC’s drug-testing protocols.
