how the hell do i get this remote play to work?

Have you gone through all the recommended steps of pairing your PSP with your PS3? Is your PSP on your network at home (can you browse the net with it?). Lastly you may need to tweak the settings on your PS3 and router.

net works, it just times out, and has that error

I had no problem getting my 3000 remote play to work over my wireless network.

Must be something wrong with your modem.
