Gardner man pleads guilty to counterfeit steroid trafficking
A Gardner man who allegedly marketed and sold counterfeit steroid products to customers across the U.S. pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court.
The man, 32-year-old Robert Medeiros, was one of six people arrested in connection with the scheme in April. He allegedly marketed manufactured steroid products under the Onyx brand and sold them to customers across the country using email and social media platforms. He was responsible for fulfilling orders for anabolic steroids by obtaining the finished products, preparing them for shipment, and sending them out to customers.
Customers paid for the products through companies like Western Union and MoneyGram, and members of the scheme allegedly used multiple locations and false identifications to fly under the radar while collecting proceeds.
Medeiros faces up to five years in prison, with three years of supervised release and a fine of no more than $250,000 or twice the gain or loss of the criminal activity.
