But that wasn't exactly the answer looking for. I just wanted to know whats Obama's reason for increasing troops over in Afghanistan.

There is no threat to America's national security whatsoever from Afghanistan, other than groups which become radicalized and hate America for its actions around the world.

The reasons for war are never transparent. I would imagine that it's to try and gain more control of the region, specifically the oil pipeline and opium trade. Overthrowing the Taliban in favor of another regime (essentially, a puppet regime) is a main factor in this. However, the Taliban was initially a puppet regime too, so who knows how that will turn out (chances are, not good).
