I just watched this great shoulder workout video with Regan Grimes training at Fit Club! His trainer Andy is taking over his programming for the next 10 weeks leading up to the New York Pro competition.
The workout was shoulder-focused (it's "Day One" of his split) with some chest and bicep work mixed in. What caught my attention was this device called "Newbie" they're using - it's actually an FDA-approved neuromuscular re-education system that's typically used for rehabilitation, but they're applying it for muscle growth instead.
Regan mentioned he had a massive breakfast (around 3000 calories) to fuel this session. The workout flow was really well structured:
They started with PEC deck flies as a pre-exhaust for chest. Regan mentioned that chest, quads, and biceps are his main focus areas for improvement.
For shoulders, they did a super high incline press that targets both shoulders and upper chest. I liked how Andy emphasized muscle engagement over just moving weight - Regan was using 275 lbs for 10-12 reps with a controlled tempo and pause at the bottom. Andy kept stressing the importance of leaving ego aside.
For side laterals, Regan used 35 lb dumbbells and shared a technique tip about pointing with the index finger rather than pinky to better engage the front deltoid. They focused on slow negatives with a 2-3 count on the way down.
The upright rows were interesting - they used just one plate to maintain perfect form, with high elbows and pulling close to the chin. Regan talked about how he injured his shoulder in the past with 65 lb lateral raises, so he's careful about warming up properly now.
For rear delts, they demonstrated two different techniques, emphasizing external rotation and proper chest positioning for optimal engagement.
The bicep work featured "feather curls" with a strong stretching component, driving elbows into the chest while curling. When they added the "Newbie" device, Regan explained it creates such intense muscle contraction that it's like "doubling down" - you have to reduce your usual volume by half.
Throughout the session, you can really see their focus on form over weight, controlled tempo, mind-muscle connection, and smart volume management.
Regan mentioned he's currently in prep, eating 5200 calories daily with zero cardio, and seeing rapid weight loss results already. His metabolism must be firing on all cylinders!
