This is a war story, specifically about 3 soldiers whose lives have changed when they fought in Vietnam. The portrayal of the scenes were so realistic that critics have only good words for the movie. Leading the cast are Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken and John Savage who played the soldiers. In supporting roles are John Cazale and Meryl Streep. The movie won the Oscar for Best Picture and Best Director but no best actor award for Robert De Niro.
