This video follows the first push workout of Mike Sommerfeld’s new training split as he prepares for the 2026 Arnold Classic. The session takes place at New Tech Gym in Las Vegas and features hands-on coaching from Mr. Olympia coach Neil Hill, who breaks down what truly defines a perfect rep.

Neil Hill explains that a perfect rep is not about moving weight for the sake of numbers. It is about control, alignment, and keeping tension on the target muscle through the full range of motion. Every rep matters, but the final reps close to failure are the most important because they create the highest mechanical tension. That tension drives progress when paired with proper recovery and progressive overload.

Key coaching points include:
  • Use full range of motion on almost every exercise.
  • Keep your body position locked so stress stays on the intended muscle.
  • Avoid shifting load to secondary muscles like front delts or triceps.
  • Warm up properly to protect joints and refine movement patterns.
  • Do not rush weight jumps, extra warm-up sets reduce injury risk.
Hill also explains that not every set must reach failure, but intensity, total volume, and training goals must match the stimulus of the day. The perfect rep is one where form stays intact, tension never leaves the muscle, and the rep is finished under your own control.

This session gives rare insight into elite-level bodybuilding coaching and shows exactly how top competitors train for long-term progress, health, and stage-ready physiques.
