The state of Nevada has one of the highest rates of homelessness in the US.

But even though there are more than 14,000 homeless people in Las Vegas, it is easy to spend a weekend in Sin City and never see signs of a crisis.

Most tourists take in Vegas from the interior of a casino - slot machines, blackjack tables, cocktail waitresses in impossibly tiny outfits.

If you are willing to pay the price of admission, a lift can transport you to more excess upstairs - rooftop pools and lavish suites.

But what if there were a lift that descended below the sunken lounges, past kitchens and utility closets, through layers of concrete, into the ground beneath the casinos?

Here, you would see another, very different, version of the city: the storm drains...

interesting, we have tunnels below the highway here, that ive been into before, giant tunnels (circular tunnels) but they get smaller the more you go down, also i would bring a gun with you, cus people have been attacked here.

I was amazed with the number of homeless people in America, it just blew me away.

It isn't like we don't have any in Australia, but it is 1000x in America. Amazing considering the lack of actual care available, how cold it gets in winter there and how relatively rich the country is.

I had a beer last night with a guy who we call River Steve who, you guessed it, lives by a river. I'm pretty sure most small towns have an alcoholic homeless dude that the locals take care of. City guys probably aren't as fortunate, though begging might be more lucrative.

A lot of the choice to be homeless. and many live in shelters during the winter when its cold at night. Imagine being homeless. no job worries. no school worries. no bills to pay. different stories every day. but obviously there are negatives
