Undefeated Australian Bilal Akkawy is a replacement for the injured David Lemieux to face Englishman John Ryder for the vacant WBA interim super middleweight title on May 4 at T-mobile Arena, Las Vegas. Akkawy has 20 wins with 16 KOs while Ryder has a fight record of 27-4 with 15 KOs. The winner is expected to be part of the June 1 card of Anthony Joshua in the US.

It was a lackluster fight in the early rounds until the expected barrage of punches from Ryder came forth. It was not expected to end the fight in the 3rd but the undefeated Australian gave way to the onslaught of Ryder. Akkawy was knocked down twice in that fateful round that resulted in a stoppage. The loss was a disaster for Akkawy’s dream of a title fight since he had lost the interim belt.
