Filipino Jelbirt Gomera will try to duplicate what compatriot Nonito Donaire achieved against Irish champion Ryan Burnett in the World Boxing Series late last year. Burnett has 19 wins and 9 KOs with only 1 loss and he will meet Gomera who has a fight record of 14-5 and 7 KOs for the vacant WBC International super bantamweight crown on May 17 at Belfast, Ireland, the hometown of Burnett.

Irish champion Ryan Burnett went back on the winning trail by stoppage in the 6th round. It was an ugly stoppage due to the defeatist attitude of Gomera who turned his back on Burnett presumably due to his continual complaints of low blow by Burnett. Although Burnett deserves the win since he was leading in the scorecards, the ending of the fight was not exactly decent and desirable.
