Champion Jose Ramirez will defend his WBC super lightweight title against Danny O’Connor in Fresno, California. After garnering 22 wins with 16 KOs, Ramirez will have Robert Garcia in his corner instead of the usual presence of hall of famer Freddie Roach. Just like Manny Pacquiao, Ramirez had officially changed his trainer and coach for his 23rd fight. Although an underdog, O’Connor sports a fight record of 30 wins with 11 KOs and only 3 losses.

Shades of UFC in cancelled fights, the WBC super lightweight championship fight is cancelled due to the hospitalization of the challenger. Danny O'Connor suffered from extreme dehydration and showed worrisome symptoms during the weigh-in. He was immediately brought to the hospital. The problem was obviously caused by the weight cut which is the usual problem of boxers and MMA fighters. It would have been the first defense of Ramirez.
