As undercard for the Alvarez-Kovalev rematch, WBO featherweight champion Oscar Valdez will defend his title against Carmine Tommasone. In his last fight against Scott Quigg in March of 2018, Valdez suffered a fractured jaw although he still won by unanimous decision. Both are undefeated with the champion having 24 wins with 19 KOs while Tommasone has 19 wins with only 5 KOs.

Challenger Carmine Tommasone suffered a technical knockout after the referee counted him out. The knockdown was caused by an uppercut on the jaw. Undefeated Oscar Valdez has upped his KO record to 20 with his 25 wins in retaining the WBO featherweight title. Tommasone was knocked down twice in the 4th round and has a swollen eye before the end of the fight. It was the first loss in his career with a record of 19 wins.
