Filipino Vic Saludar will try to keep his WBO strawweight belt against Wilfredo Mendez on August 24 at the territory of Mendez in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The champion has a fight record of 19-3 and 10 KOs while the challenger has only 1 loss with 13 wins and 5 KOs. The manager of Saludar said that a hometown decision is probable so they need a knockout for sure victory.

Filipino Vic Saludar was unable to successfully defend his WBO title by losing to Puerto Rican challenger Wilfredo Mendez. In spite of the knockdown inflicted by Saludar, the judges gave Mendez a unanimous decision of 117-110, 116-111, 115-112 all for the ringmanship of the new WBO strawweight champion. Mendez improved his career record to 14-1 and 5 KOs.
