I’m just curious.
http://www.luckypierrot.jp/new/framepage19.htm
I can think of a few good reasons to eat one. I can also think of a few good reasons not to.
Why you shouldn’t eat whale:
1# Whale meat is high in mercury. Mercury ain’t good for ya.
2# You might be eating a species to death.
Provided you don’t eat whale meat more than a few times a year, 1# shouldn’t pose much of an obstacle. Number 2# is more tricky. Japanese whaling boats predominately hunt Minke whale. As far as I can tell, Minke whales are not in danger of being eaten to extinction by Japanese. The population of Minke whales is estimated to be anywhere from 185,000 to 760,000 worldwide. Japan typically catches less than 700. (to be fair they did hunt almost a thousand last year)
Now, should anyone come up with credible evidence that Minke whales are being eaten off the face of the earth, I wouldn’t advocate eating a tasty whale burger.
Remember, now matter how good it tastes, extinction is forever.
As far as I can tell, Japan isn’t hunting the Minke Whale to extinction. So I tried it last time I was in Japan.
I ate:
whale curry
whale bacon
whale stew
fried whale and
whale jerky.
It tastes like beef.
