Why this session matters Elite quad-focused leg day at NewTech Las Vegas, just under 5½ weeks out from Olympia. Coach Neil Hill runs a Y3T-style protocol that front-loads adductors, locks in clean mechanics, and scales weekly volume based on recovery. Athlete is fatigued (as expected) but on track—digestion solid, contractions improving, and performance trending up.
Quick stats
Quick stats
- Phase: 5.5 weeks out
- Goal: Quad dominance + inner-thigh density for better front and rear shots
- Method: Y3T progression (2 working sets now → 3–4 as volume ramps)
- Tracking: All loads/reps logged for week-to-week progression
- Refeed: Sushi tonight; burger/fries + French toast tomorrow to support recovery
- Adductors (lead exercise)
- Warm-up ladder: ~15 easy → 10 heavier → 5 near working weight → working sets
- Cues: Controlled eccentrics, stay “loaded,” no jerky range. Prioritize injury prevention here.
- Leg Extensions
- Target: Teardrop/VMO and quad sweep
- Cues: Pad/ROM adjusted, steady tempo, hard peak squeeze without hip shift.
- Belt Squat (first compound)
- Stance: Wide/open to keep adductors engaged while hammering quads
- Notes: Different brands = different leverages. Take time to dial foot position and torso angle.
- Leg Press (compound #2)
- Stance/ROM: Wide and deep without lumbar roll—core braced, hips pinned
- Bands removed for a cleaner tension curve. Technique over load every time.
- Lying Leg Curls (hamstrings finisher)
- 4 hard sets
- Cues: Hips down, ankles relaxed, full contraction in the shortened range.
- Warm up more, not less—especially when leading with adductors.
- Prime the CNS and groove the pattern before chasing numbers.
- Perfect setup first: protect lower back and knees.
- Progress volume methodically (2 → 3 → 4 working sets) as recovery allows.
- Logging drives progression: example stack jumps and rep counts recorded to beat in following weeks.
- Refeeds inserted strategically (sushi, then burger/fries + French toast) to manage systemic and local fatigue.
- Travel and posing built around training; quick posing shots post-lift.
- Order matters: adductors → isolation (extensions) → compounds (belt squat, leg press) → ham curls.
- Keep eccentrics honest and never let your lower back roll on deep leg press.
- Track loads/reps and earn increases. No ego, just clean progression.
