Arnold Schwarzenegger and His Organization Respond After “Screw Your Freedom” Comment

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sports Festival executive director responded to the backlash following the former California Governor's controversial comment.

If you’ve stayed in the loop lately, you’re probably aware of the recent news involving a comment Arnold Schwarzenegger made in an interview regarding the Covid-19 crisis, that didn’t sit too well with some. Three words; “screw your freedom,” caused a bit of an uproar, and the supplement brand Redcon1 to not sponsor the Arnold or other Arnold sports festivals.

The bodybuilding icon replied in the comment section to one of a few videos that covered the story on Nick Miller’s YouTube channel Nick’s Strength and Power. Miller played a longer version of the interview where Schwarzenegger made the statement to give more context.

The former California Governor wrote the following under the video…
“Thank you for sharing the context. I think I am going to write in my newsletter this month about how we need to be careful in these days about being misguided by the internet. Sometimes I wonder if it is better to be uninformed than misinformed. “That’s fine! They have the right to choose clickbait instead of informing their audience.
If they listened to the whole quote, they would have realized that I am talking about all of the whiny babies that I see going viral on the internet who think that being asked to put on a mask is a perfect reason to throw a toddler fit in a grocery store and look like an absolute child,” wrote Schwarzenegger."

“These are people who yell “FREEDOM” in their American flag hats while not taking any time to study the history of our nation and how freedom and duty have ALWAYS gone hand in hand. They think being an American means not caring about their fellow Americans, and I’m sorry, I can’t accept that.”

“With all of this going on, it was a wild week! One of my favorite strongmen I’ve ever worked with took my poster off of his gym wall, then a bodybuilder who played me in a movie copied that move, which wasn’t very creative. We lost a sponsor of the Arnold Sports Festival, we added new sponsors immediately.”
