The Soviet newspaper (March 5, 1969) reports on the Novosibirsk bodybuilding club "Harmony" and competitions in the city of Novosibirsk. Article title: "Harmony and Hercules." Text of the article: "For the first time in our region, a competition of strength gymnasts (bodybuilders of the Harmony club) was held in the weightlifting hall of Novosibirsk University. This is the youngest sports club in Akademgorodok. The club was organized by bodybuilding enthusiasts in October last year. It included employees of institutes, university students, students of the physics and mathematics school and cadets of the higher military-political combined arms school. The competition program included: bench press, squats with a barbell, pull-ups on a horizontal bar behind the head, measuring reaction speed on an electric stand and posing. Competitors were divided into three height categories. According to the existing rules, the results are determined by the number of points in each category, and are also recalculated using an absolute system. The competition showed that the bodybuilders of Akademgorodok, despite a noticeable shortage of equipment, picked up a good pace: many of their results increased by 50 - 80%. The results of the absolute calculation revealed the following Winners:

1. V. Kirikov. Bench press - 105 kilograms, Squats - 150 kilograms.

2. R. Grishkyan. Bench press - 100 kilograms. Squats - 140 kilograms.

3. A. Glinsky. Bench press - 100 kilograms. Squats - 130 kilograms.

4. V. Antyufeev. Bench press - 105 kilograms. Squats - 110 kilograms.

In March, the strongest athletes from each weight category of the "Harmony" club will travel to Tyumen for the Open Russian Championship in Athletic Gymnastics (bodybuilding), where our foreign guests from Poland and the GDR are also expected to compete.
