The "Mayak "Sports Club. In 1986, the first gym opened, and many flocked there. It was very popular with young people. At that time, representatives of all sports trained there: Vladimir Korshunov, an international master of sports in cycling, Shamil Khabibrakhmanov, a weightlifter, and Yuri Sokolov, a volleyball player. Sergei Mironov, Alik Khabibrakhmanov, Farid Abdullin, skier Yuri Novoseltsev, and many other enthusiasts of lifting weights were always to be found there. Competitions back then were held in triathlon, what is now called powerlifting, and the training was bodybuilding-oriented. Shamil Khabibrakhmanov became the republic's first USSR Master of Sports in athletics.

Dmitry Sergeevich Zolin (June 12, 1952), Chelyabinsk-40 (Ozersk) - Master of Sports of the USSR in weightlifting (1974), Master of Sports of the USSR in bodybuilding. (1988). 19-time champion of Russia, champion of the USSR (1988), European champion (2002), three-time world champion (1995, 2002, 2006), bronze medalist Mr. Universe (2003). In 1971, at the age of 19, Dmitry came to the weightlifting gym. For him, who did not go through the junior school, it was too late to take up the barbell. But where the age limit fails, character prevails: a year later he achieved the third adult category, another one after that - the first category. A year later, in 1974 - the standard of Master of Sports of the USSR in weightlifting at the Union Championship in Vilnius. The city's history had never seen such a spurt in weightlifting. Zolin trains diligently, lifting up to forty tons of metal per workout. But there were no results. Frustrated by his "unpromising student," the coach dismissed him. Training independently, Dmitry became a member of the national team, a multiple regional champion and medalist, a national champion, a medalist in the Ural and RSFSR championships, and a participant in the USSR championship. In 1990, Dmitry competed in an international tournament in Tyumen, where he placed 5th.
In 1992, Dmitry switched from the IFBB to the NABBA version. It was in this federation that he first competed for the Russian national team at the World Championships, where he immediately took 6th place.
After rigorous training, in 2001, he became the overall winner of the Russian Cup among men, took 2nd place at the World Championships in Austria, and achieved a true triumph – 1st place at the "Mr. Universe" fitness championship (300 athletes from 30 countries). Tradition dictates that the World Bodybuilding Championships are held in a different country each year, and Dmitry Zolin is a regular participant.
The athlete has won silver and bronze medals, but all three of his world championship gold medals were won in Spain: in 1995 in Marbella, in 2002 in Tenerife, and in 2006 in Benidorm. Zolin is an avid car driver and race car driver.
The champion has 60 trophies and 140 medals to his credit.
