Donaire is new WBA bantamweight champion

Nonito Donaire wins the WBA bantamweight title against Ryan Burnett in SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland. It is Donaire’s return to the 118-pound division after 7 years of fighting in heavier divisions where he earned 4 division titles. Burnett suffered a hip injury in the 4th round and was given a count of 7 when he fell on his knees. But Burnett failed to come out in the 5th round for his first loss via TKO. With his fight record of 39-5, Donaire will be fighting the WBO champion Zolani Tete of South Africa for the semifinals of the World Boxing Super series.

Some reports say that Donaire was behind in the scorecards when the fight was stopped. Now Donaire is upbeat for the semifinal fight in the World Boxing Super Series against Zolani Tete, the South African WBO bantamweight champion with a fight record of 28-3 and 21 knockouts.
