It being such a specialised, relegated sport and with the recent awareness of more shows disappearing and the sport becoming ever more reclusive how would you change Bodybuilding?

Look at it from any point of view you care to:

The contests - Would you change the judging criteria, entry requirements. Change the layout and the rounds to include other things (think the challenger round).

Advertising - Would you try and reach out to a new audience or do you think it would be fruitless. Would you try and market it differently to appeal to those who are blinkered by "steroid" stories in the press as their only knowledge of the sport.

Competitors - Would you like to see them doing more than just guest posing at BBing specific events and pushed into other sectors of the entertainment industry or even other sporting arenas that open people up to a sport that they might be as yet unaware of to a degree.

Olympics - Do you think Olympic recognition would be a good thing. How could they incorprate it into the games to make it a valid contest and spectator sport.

Anything at all. How can you better the sport we love?

Make bodybuilding more entertaining, more like a spectacle! Give the guys a character and a personality.

Oh wait, Vince Mcmahon already tried that.

I would fix the judging so someone like Cutler could not possibly win two Mr O's looking the way he does :keke:

How long did it take you to write that Rocky? We are used to one liners from you. Good post though!

Maybe weight classes? Don't know, but somehow we should start ridding the sport of this image of big, sloppy guys on roids stuffing their faces with food.

LOL at Braaq, can't rep you anymore.

Actually thats why alot of people go to watch IFBB events...the freak factor. If people wanted to pay to see more eye pleasing physiques then Natural bodybuilding would be bigger than it is....Truth :D

Completely agree. People love to see the freaks! At the expo here last weekend, people who didnt even know what bodybuilding was flooded the place to see this massive cartoon character Jay Cutler. I think the pros need to attend more diverse events than just expos and competitions, where people already know who they are. I think that we need another Arnold to come through. Somebody with a real personality who isnt afraid to reach out to the mainstream media.

That's what I think would make the difference. Someone who makes people interested in them.
If someone pushed themselves into the public not necessarily just though bodybuilding channels - then once they built up a fan base maybe in other arenas then people would learn about the BBing side and maybe be interested.
There isn't enough positive media interest. The only time we ever see BBing on mainstream TV is news coverage of another "steroid scandal".

The problem with BBers for the past few years is they are too vacuous. They don't reach out - when they talk it's so dull and they just thank God or critisize other BBers - there is no personality.

If we had a character and BBing had Olympic recognition so that this new "personality" had a world stage to interest people it might create a chance for the sport.

Also with regard to the contests - the expense must put people off. I know it being a niche sport means they need to optimise profits but I think they are alienating borderline interested people by making it too cost prohibitive for people to want to go to them.

I think they'd benefit by dropping the price and perhaps getting more people to go - they'd still get the same money but more people interested in it.

I know the WBF failed in their attempts but what do people think about making the contests more interative for spectators? Is it possible or too impractical to retain realistic judgin opportunites.

hmm maybe like part of the judging be a fan vote?
i think they need a personality in the sport to bring attention. advertise more, and somehow get it known to other people. somewhat like what ronnie did, but even farther and really excite people, need a peoples champ!

I don't think different weight classes would necessarily be bad for the sport. Look at boxing - you have a variety of "champs" and each of them have the opportunity to be personalities and draw different fans to essentially the same sport!
Plus you could have like you do in boxing with the different belts and champs trying to unite the belts to have one overall champ.

I think they should have 2 Mr.O's. The one we have now and one called the Super Mr. Olympia, in which people could only enter if they were over 300lbs and not to test for dieuretics, steroids, or anything else. :tiphat:

Honestly, One thing that could improve the sport is to ban people posing in g strings. Its a bit hard to argue that this is a masculine sport when it gives such a gay vibe off. Posing in shorts similar to the MMA would not detract from a quad pose.

Two less focus on drugs and more on the hard work and dedication it takes to build these bodies. There are too many arm chair critics (especially on the net) who are running down all the blood, sweat and tears gone into building huge amounts of muscle.

^^^ i agree with the top bit

my change on bodybuilding would be as follows

1) bring Mike Menzter back to life

and

2) kill the judges. let everyone decide and vote who has the best body

The judging hasn't only favoured Cutler...Coleman has got atleast 1 sandow just because as well :xyxthumbs: and there is nothing that changes that every Mr.O has got favoured over "better" people atleast once
