maybe do a system restore, that would reset some stuff and possibly make it faster

Wow dude there is so much shit you can do. I dont feel like explaining it but ill find some videos on youtube. Basically what you want to do is go to advanced settings and turn off all the little stupid shit like shadows under cursors and icons and stuff. Also I didnt watch all of the videos but you can turn off some programs that run when you turn your PC on that really dont use. I cant remember how to get to it but if these videos dont show ill try and remember. I know alot about comps so PM if you have any difficulties.

on vista ultimate i turned off superfetch or so off,
supposedly it makes other programs start quicker
browser, music player etc, which i now know is a fact
but PC games run quicker, less loading times, some how
loading windows at start up is tad faster.

prefetch is pure bull its doesn't do any good at all..it only slows your computer down..if you have a slow computer from the beginning you shouldn't run Vista in the first place, cause its much more demanding then XP
