I'm not looking forward to this. IT would suck, only the rich would obtain this and it wont come at a easy price anyone will be able to afford, probably in the tens of millions.

One good problem is over-population,
the planet would be over populated..

It already is overpopulated Steve.

We have done a pretty good job of wiping out anything that resembles an ecosystem in order to make it possible for us to survive.

I would GLADLY live more. I dont know about you guys, but I enjoy being a better person every day. Learning and evolving. I wish I could keep it up forever till I was as close as I can to my ideal self.

Even if would see loved people die, I would be able to learn from experiences, learn new things, meet new people. And be forever grateful of the memories I have of those gone. It would have its ups and downs, just like regular life... but it depends upon the persons outlook of life if the glass is half empty or half full.

Thanks to god its half full for me. So I believe I would actually get the best out of "immortality". BRING IT !

That's an awesome outlook you have man. However the death of loved ones could be the deal breaker for you. Most of us on this board are young and strong willed. It will be interesting to see what old age bring in terms of life outlook. I worked in a retirement home for a good many years. Many of the residents were very positive and active well into their 90's, but even they said it was enough. The brevity of life is what gave them their joy, it made things count.

You get some very interesting perspective from you elders. One woman in her late 80's once told me that the greatest gift you can give someone is your time, since you can't get it back, and that having very limited time makes it very special.

Do you think your outlook on life and death may change with age?

There's really only answer to this and it's "yes". The way your outlook changes is dependent of a lot of variables though. I try not to predict how view death when I'm older, as two years ago I wasn't sure I wanted to be alive and now I love life more than anything.

Of course.

I study psychology and development psychology teaches us that every stage of our lives brings new dilemmas and new worries that must be resolved in order to be happy.

But what it also tells us is that if you battled through the obstacles that came in earlier stages of development and gained insight and true knowledge through them without getting fixated is that you will have more tools, mental strength and energy to fight new ones in new stages of development.

Its not a deal breaker for me to know what kind of thoughts must one have in different stages to be closer to an "ideal" because its always fun to compare how you think against what is perfect or, on the other hand, what is considered negative.

For example, in old people (70-80) if they had a good life and a good mental life they should not worry about death, instead accept it as something inevitable and try to bring all their wisdom towards younger people, thus knowing they are worth something. That would be the positives outcome.

Anyway... if I keep myself open to new possibilities, new information and my will to live doesnt go away, I doubt my perspective of wanting to live forever will change. I hope my post is understandable !

Your post is very clear and informative. I agree that surpassing obstacles and gaining wisdom is a wonderful experience. It brings great joy to my life to attempt to be better everyday. So I agree with you on that point.

The question becomes that of the ability of an older person to relate to a changing world around them. New music, new movies, new clothes that you may not like becoming the standard. It would just be a huge change to society.

Its a very interesting question. And as much as I enjoy living, I do believe that mortality does make life special and more valuable to a degree.

Its good that your life and your outlook have changed to be very positive and fulfilling. I share your philosophy of not dwelling on one's outlook of the future and death too much.

becoming immune to everything? hmm..highly unlikely. yea, becoming immortal isn't gonna happen I dont think. Line's post make's sense, it'd be cool if we were in shape an happy, but not otherwise. There's no way immortality is only 20 years away. Wouldn't scientists have to come up for vaccines for everything? They haven't even found what "everthing" is.

I agree bro !

If we actually achieve immortality it will be very interesting from a "mental studies" point of view to track how people deal with never ending life. I can already see immortality depression becoming real haha.

Wouldn't it suck to pay all this money for it then become paralyzed. Or if you still got hit by a bus or shot in the head you would still die. I think people want to be immortal because they are afraid of the unknown. Its easy and more safe to live in this world than take the risk of seeing what happens to oneself after death. I personally want to die (kinda funny to say) not because I am depressed, I love life, not because I don't want to learn and grow; I just think after a few hundred years or after just one hundred years I would just become BORED. I would want something different. I would just say FUCK IT bring me DEATH. Maybe after death is better than where we are now but the unknown is what makes you not want to find out.

P.S. The whole worlds population can fit inside Texas.
