For me, I don't think it is something that should be a worry to him. What is important is to keep training and eating loads of protein supplements. That is the best way to gain muscles, and not weight though. The thing about gaining weight and not muscles is that you will have to train again to shed those fats.
Exactly! You have just mentioned something about the having to gain weight that is very important. To gain weight is pretty much different from gaining muscle and looking at gaining weight and gaining muscles, it's very obvious that gaining the latter (Muscles) is far more important and better than gaining weight because the just gained weight is just calories and fat which are practically not healthy for the body system. Gaining weight would have you suffering from obesity and it's very devastating if you are not careful enough with taking care of it and working out properly, consistently and eating properly.
