For me, I don't think it is something that should be a worry to him. What is important is to keep training and eating loads of protein supplements. That is the best way to gain muscles, and not weight though. The thing about gaining weight and not muscles is that you will have to train again to shed those fats.

Exactly! You have just mentioned something about the having to gain weight that is very important. To gain weight is pretty much different from gaining muscle and looking at gaining weight and gaining muscles, it's very obvious that gaining the latter (Muscles) is far more important and better than gaining weight because the just gained weight is just calories and fat which are practically not healthy for the body system. Gaining weight would have you suffering from obesity and it's very devastating if you are not careful enough with taking care of it and working out properly, consistently and eating properly.

To gain is just very easy to do. All you got to do is just eat any food that you would love to eat. You can drink any drinks just to gain weight. In my own experience, I eat a lot of rice and viand. I had also slept early and woke up late. Then just like magic I gained great weight that my friends told me that I am already fat.

This reminds me of my teenage days when my metabolism was so active that no matter how much I eat my weight remains the same. My parents said that it may be an excessive playing of basketball so I rested for a week but nothing substantial happened with my weight. Maybe you eat more and get more rest that sooner or later the fats will be clinging to you.

He has to do lots of weight gain exercises like weight lifting alongside with eating first class proteins and fats.

Be there for him, share your concerns with him, but don't let him down. Inviting him to hang out and participate in physical activities is a good idea. Take walks, rollerblade, cycle, disc golf, or anything else he enjoys.

Take food like Peanut butter on raisin bread. 820 calories per sandwich, and pretty good for you.

It could be genetic. Some people are naturally skinny that no matter what they eat, they are still skinny. The fastest way to gain weight is to never skip a meal.

Your brother is obviously an ectomorph body style & those are the hardest to put on size. It's also a daunting task trying to do so because he wants to put on quality size and not just just the soft kind. So he needs to eat high calorie clean foods, which is not always easy. Red meat would be good since he can get away with the fat content & take advantage of the all the good it provides. Frequent deals, every two hours, even smaller ones on the run will help.

my bros almost 25yrs old
he's bout' 5'10 and 125lbs
needs to gain mass, don't get me wrong
for his size he's pretty strong
db flat presses 65lbs for now
he just needs to gain general mass.
we stopped at the nutrition store saw
serious mass, BSN true mass, After max
hmmm muscle milk, muscle milk collegiate...
which one out of those would be good for him?
he also has a habit of shitting and farting alot
with the ones that have lots of fiber...
plus is there a good pill/supplement that can
help him gain weight? or at least increase his appetite?

Check whether your brother is Lactose tolerant or not. If not stop using whey protein. Start Pro biotic drink after your lunch and repeat this for a week, his gut microbes will become healthy again and would increase his appetite and digestion. Ask him to add more fish protein in his diet would help him to gain muscle without any digestive problems.

your brother is not going to gain any muscle because you want him to he's going to have to want to himself because it takes quite a lot to put muscle on it takes diet it takes training it takes time

At that weight just having regular meals would help. I'm betting breakfast is nonexistent or at least minimal, I'm betting that there aren't any snacks throughout the day, and I bet he doesn't have much of an idea of how much he eats.

One way is to record his food intake in a food log for a week. See what he eats, when and how much. Then work out his calorie intake and his calorie needs and then add ~500 cals to this per day. This is as simple as a morning and afternoon snack.

Keep the foods healthy and with as little processing as possible. There is absolutely no need for any supplements at this stage (unless it is support for his training like a PWO shake, creatine, fish oil, glucosamine, multivit).
Well said Looking at his eating habits and keeping a record for a week is sure to reveal what is missing. That which helps him to build up his muscles and not his fat is where he should concentrate.

Been years.. But my bro is the same. Now he has a family and 5 year old daughter. Can't really afford to gain weight lol. He bought a house before the mortgage BS. Thanks everyone for your input.
