The short version:


These newer GLP-1 / GIP / triple agonist drugs (Ozempic, Mounjaro/Wegovy, Retatrutide) are insanely effective for weight loss—but they don’t only strip fat. A big part of the weight loss is lean mass, especially if:

• You’re eating much less overall
• Protein intake drops
• Training intensity goes down

Why GLP-1 drugs cause muscle loss in the first place​

• With regular dieting, 25–35% of weight loss is usually muscle, not just fat.
• GLP-1 / GIP / triple agonists amplify this by crushing appetite and pushing you into a deeper calorie deficit.
• Result: great fat loss, but higher risk of sarcopenia (muscle loss), especially in older guys and TRT users.

Steroids + Ozempic / Mounjaro / Retatrutide​

Mechanistically:

• Anabolic steroids are the most powerful pharmacologic tools we have against muscle loss.
• They increase protein synthesis, nitrogen retention and lean mass, and decrease muscle breakdown.
• So at the body-composition level, they actually complement GLP-1 drugs:
  
  • GLP-1s → less food, less weight, but more muscle risk
  • Anabolics → more muscle / preservation despite the deficit

That’s exactly why many real-world coaches quietly add anabolics when athletes go on GLP-1s.


But… they’re not benign:

• ↑ hematocrit, BP, cardiovascular risk
• Worse lipids, liver strain, HPTA shutdown, fertility issues, mood changes

So the combo might work for recomposition, but the health cost is very context-dependent.

HGH + GLP-1/GIP/triple agonists​

HGH:

• Increases lipolysis, especially visceral fat
• Supports lean mass
• But also raises blood glucose and reduces insulin sensitivity

GLP-1 / GIP drugs:

• Improve insulin sensitivity
• Lower blood glucose
• Reduce appetite and energy intake

So metabolically, they’re a powerful yin–yang combo:

HGH pushes fat burning but hurts insulin sensitivity.
GLP-1s clean up the glucose side and help control appetite.

On paper, amazing recomposition synergy. In reality: almost no long-term safety data on stacking them at supraphysiologic doses, plus overlapping side effects (GI issues, edema, CTS, etc.).

: the triple-agonist wildcard​

• Very extreme weight loss in trials (~22–24%+).
• Most of that is fat, but lean mass still gets hit.
• No real research on combining it with steroids or HGH.

So right now, mixing Retatrutide with cycles is basically self-experimentation.

What you can do safely​
