The religious leadership in the Iranian city of Isfahan has forbidden female bodybuilding activities, adding to the already dismal situation for women in the Islamic Republic.
The mullah administration does not want women to "feel strong in Iran," according to Sheina Vojoudi, an Iranian dissident who moved to Germany to avoid imprisonment. It is hazardous to the regime. The world is now aware that this administration is just using Hijab as a pretext to oppress Iranian women.
"The Islamic Republic was founded on anti-woman ideology," she said. "To repress a society, you must first oppress its women." Iranian women have always paid a high price for their rights since 1979. We've been repressed, tormented, and intimidated by Basij, and our rights have been revoked, yet we're still fighting."
According to detractors, the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979 ushered in a theocratic regime that enforces gender apartheid on women. The Basij is a volunteer paramilitary organization deployed by the Iranian state to impose women's enslavement and suppress political opposition.
According to the Iranian regime-controlled media source Metropolises News Agency (MNA), Hossein Zibaei, the deputy director of sports development at the Isfahan Sports and Youth Administration, confirmed the suspension of women's bodybuilding activities this week.
"This part has been reported to the country's main directorate."
"In answer to the question of whether this notice was sent for all provinces, he pointed out: This order came from the ministry, and we simply have to respect this order," MNA stated.
Isfahan, a city in central Iran, has made news recently for execution sprees in its massive prison system and large rallies over economic and political corruption, including water shortages.
Tavaana, the Iranian Civil Society E-Learning Institute, tweeted to its 137,800 followers, "Bodybuilding activities for women in Isfahan have been outlawed." Every day, the Islamic Republic takes another step toward the erasure of women from society... We advise sports teams/federations and male athletes not to be apathetic to the increasingly stringent limits placed on female athletes."
