Hey guys, so I’ve been seriously thinking about entering a Classic Physique competition lately but honestly I’m still kinda unsure if my proportions are really where they need to be yet 😅 lyk I’ve been training hard and trying to build that whole aesthetic look but I keep second guessing myself.

For those of you who’ve already competed, how did you actually know your physique had that “classic looK” before stepping on stage? Was it something obvious or did you still have doubts going in?
Would really appreciate any advice or real talk here 🙏 thanks much.

Hey bro, I get you. I was the same before my first show.

Honestly, there’s no clear moment where you feel 100% ready. I still had doubts even close to comp day lol. What helped me was getting feedback from a coach and really focusing on posing. Don’t wait to feel perfect, just go for it, you’ll learn a lot along the way.

Totally normal to feel that way. Almost everyone has doubts before their first show. The classic look isn’t something you suddenly feel one day and it’s usually confirmed through feedback.

Most competitors rely on a mix of things: honest input from a good coach, posing videos/photos, and how well their physique flows, shoulders-to-waist ratio, symmetry, and overall balance. Conditioning also plays a huge role; even great structure won’t shine without it.

In Classic, it’s less about size and all about visual flow. You’ll know you’re on the right track when your X-frame (wide shoulders, tight waist, quad sweep) looks aesthetic even when you aren’t flexed. If you can hold a solid vacuum and your proportions feel balanced, you’re likely closer than you think. You’ll always have doubts. The best way to know for sure is to get an objective critique from a coach or veteran who isn't biased by your own self-criticism.

How’s your posing coming along? In this division, how you show the muscle is just as important as the muscle itself.
