Alberto Machado will defend his WBA junior lightweight crown against Andrew Cacnio at Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California on February 9. The undefeated champion has a fight record of 21 wins with 17 KOs while Cacnio has a record of 19-4-2 with 14 KOs. With their KO experience we can expect a slambang action and a shorter fight. Machado is the favorite in the betting odds with his most recent fight that ended in the first round when he knocked out challenger Yuandale Evans.

It was a big surprise since Cancio was knocked down right in the first round by the heavy punch of Machado. But the crowd’s expectation turned to surprise when Cancio recovered and tried to get closer in the 2nd and 3rd rounds until that fateful 4th round when Cancio was successful with the body punches that sent Machado on his knees. The 3 knockdowns of Machado resulted in a TKO result for the challenger.

Damn! I don't think I've ever witnessed a champ's reign ended that fast in my life. I still can't believe Cacnio knocked down Machado 3 times in that phenomenon 4th round.

It's a good thing Golden Boy made sure that Machado had a rematch clause in the contract with Cancio just in case things went south for the champ. Now, the thing is I don't think Machado will do any better in the next fight especially after seeing the outcome of this fight.

I had seen how Cancio peppered Machado with the body punches that softened the champion. Even in the 3rd round it was already obvious that Machado had lost steam maybe due to the heavy body punches and he looked a beaten champion. I had already guessed that the end was near and it was not a surprise when Machado folded in the 4th. He was not only spent physically but also mentally.
