In an epic battle between the top mass monsters, Samson Dauda from the United Kingdom pulled off the biggest win of his career by defeating reigning Mr. Olympia Brandon Curry to capture the prestigious 2024 Arnold Classic title.
The 2024 Arnold Classic in Columbus, Ohio served as an incredible preview for the upcoming Mr. Olympia showdown in December. With nearly every top pro in the Open bodybuilding ranks competing, it was a showdown for the ages.
Going into the contest, all eyes were on the rematch between reigning Mr. Olympia Brandon Curry and the surging Samson Dauda. Dauda had been on a tear the last two years, winning the Arnold Classic UK and finishing runner-up to Curry at the last two Olympias.
In prejudging, Curry appeared to be in fantastic condition, displaying his trademark full muscle bellies and deep separations. However, Dauda matched him pose for pose with slightly better conditioning and details in the delts, arms, and legs.
When the finals hit, it was a virtual dead heat between the two titans. Curry's bigger lung capacity and ability to hold poses gave him the edge in several of the mandatories. But Dauda's drier look and more shredded glutes and hamstrings stole the show in the various twisting poses.
In the end, after reviewing the scorecards, head judge Steve Weinberger announced Samson Dauda as the new Arnold Classic champion, winning by just a single point over Brandon Curry in one of the closest contests in the show's history.
The capacity crowd at the Battelle Grand roared in approval as the 36-year-old Dauda achieved his dream of winning the Arnold title. When asked what was next, Dauda smiled confidently, "This win just fueled my motivation to keep improving so I can become Mr. Olympia this year."
With the Mr. Olympia just nine months away, the stage has been set for an absolutely epic showdown between Curry and Dauda that may go down as one of the greatest battles in the history of professional bodybuilding.
