Just got back from the gym; not as bad as I expected.
Did about 4 pull-ups with a 45 plate on my waist, but only worked up to sets with 185 on the squat.

Damn, being sick sucks.

The Return of Lifterdead

I'm back.

After getting married, finishing most of my grad course work, being sick, and generally dicking around, I'm ready to do some serious training again. Currently I weight around 160 and my training maxes are looking something like this:

Squat: 300
Bench: 255
Dead: 330

I've decided NOT to compete in the IPA again. No offense to Gene Rychalek, the meet was great for a first timer, but I'd like to try the USAPL this time. The NJ state championships were postponed till July 31, so I've been lucky enough to sneak in an entry.

My Training:

This time I'll be using Korte's 3x3. It's worked well for me in the past, and hopefully it will work well again. I'll post my lifting schedule soon.

-Btw, I hear the USAPL is much stricter on judging depth and whatnot. I'll still be competing RAW, too.

Sunday, May 30, 2010 Week 1 - Day 1
Squat
5x5x165.00lbs

Bench Press
5x6x140.25lbs

Deadlift
5x5x187.00lbs

It may not look like much, but keep in mind I'm doing this routine 3 days a week; squats and deads 3 times a week ain't easy! (Even if it is light weight.)

So far, so good!

On to next week:

On Monday, Weds, and Friday:

Squat 185 5x5
Bench 155 5x5
Dead 205 5x5


For the hell of it, I did some dips yesterday, wanted to see how heavy I could go. I got 3 deep reps with 90 pounds (40 Kilos) hanging from my waist.

Fun stuff!

Weights are still the same, just higher reps, 6x5, 7x5, 8x5.....

Still going on week 3 of Korte's program:

Squat 7x5 @185 pounds
Bench 7x6 @ 155 pounds
Dead 7x5 @205 pounds

Repeat 3 times a week......

Letting myself eat more now. I actually got up to 160 pounds this week......

Well, I'm moving into the final phase. Rather than post each day, I'll post my schedule for the last month. (The meet is July 30th)

This week:
Squat: 2x2@240
Bench: 2x2@205
Dead: 2x2@275

Next week:
Squat: 1x2@255
Bench: 1x2@215
Dead: 1x2@290

Week 3
Squat: 1x1@275
Bench: 1x1@230
Dead: 1x1@305

THE WEEK BEFORE THE MEET!
Squat: 1x1@285
Bench: 1X1@245
Dead: 1x1@315

In the gym, I've maxed out above this numbers before, so I'm playing it light coming into the meet.

Here's what I had in mind for my meet:

Openers:
275 on the squat. Should be easy.
315 on the dead, I've repped this for 4 before.
225 on the bench, since it was my missed bench before, I want to make sure I make this this time around.

Second round:
Squat: 300
Dead: 330
bench: 235

This would total me to 865 @148 pounds RAW. Not bad, but not great either.

Then I go for broke.

Squat: 320
Dead: 345
Bench: 250

That would give me 915 @148. I know it's still waaaay to early to speculate, but hey, it's fun...


Any comments or suggestions?

good luck with your meet, i'm sure you'll have better luck this time and will take wiser decisions thanks to your experience in Jan. You've got a plan and you're aiming for some pretty good numbers, keep at it and you'll do well!.

Here I am, 3 days out.

My thoughts so far:

I lose weight quickly. I've done no cardio, just occasionally 5 minutes of jumping jacks before breakfast. Maybe twice a week. Other than that, I've just cleaned up my diet. Down to 148 since last morning. I was 161-ish at the start of July..... Strength held up good. Last week I nailed 325 for a double in deads. Still, losing so much bodyweight was probably a bad idea. I think this will be my last time to compete at 148. Otherwise, I look and feel great. Actually have abs now. The only thing I'm thinking about changing will be my openers. I was thinking of lowering them, as I'm unfamiliar with IPF rules and scared shitless of bombing out again. Maybe 250/200/300?

Keep your openers low, something you know you can rep out.

Good luck man! keep the openers low just to get in a lift and then go hard the other 2!
