Actually, I dissagree, Vic has been climbing the ladder steadily over the past few years and people had him as high as 2nd in 2006. He did not come from out of nowhere.
He'll be right there this year again.

Actually, I dissagree, Vic has been climbing the ladder steadily over the past few years and people had him as high as 2nd in 2006.

Some had him winning in 2006, I believe our friend Milos included.

Anyway, after Vic's arrest and release his career was at a standstill and not many people thought he would be able to regain the glory (or physique) that came with winning the 2003 NOC and 2004 SOS shows. He was quick to gain muscle back but his conditioning suffered greatly and accusations of synthol abuse in his arms began circling through bodybuilding rumor mills and he was written off by almost everyone. Even his 5th place finish at the 2005 Mr. O was controversial as he looked but was not as nearly as sharp as we had seen him in the past and still had a difficult time controlling his stomach. I'd say that the 2006 AC when he finished was the turning point of his career and even then we weren't sure if he could continually nail his conditioning.

So yes, his career has been a steady progression but until the past year or two no one thought he was a realistic contender for the title, let alone being deserving enough to know off Cutler in 2007.

Yes, but everyone took a "I'll believe it when I see it" attitude towards it, especially considering the shape he was showing up in prior to the 2005 Olympia.
