Well, I don't think the word 'visceral' even begins to describe Manhunt...

Thank you for the review and vid, chesticles. I don't believe I'd ever really get into the game itself, but I can see the appeal. The hidden camera system on stealth kills is innovative, and the offs themselves are creative/bold(and yeah, kinda cool) to say the least. My disdain for the GTA ranchise has marked my opinion of Rockstar to a great degree; Manhunt looks to be a lot more solid though. Again, I don't see myself snapping it up, but thank you for sharing all of that info with me, chesti. I definitely think more of it now than I did before.

Although a movie would probably be handled by Uwe Boll; in such a case, we should hope it'd never see the light of day. Truly, that "man's" "work" is an affront to sentience.

Metroid Prime 1 and 2 have terrific bosses. Metroid's not for everyone, but for those that understand what kind of game it is, they'll adore it.

He did House of the Dead, Alone in the Dark(in which Tara Reid is cast as a brilliant anthropologist...skipped that one), and Bloodrayne. I'm aware of those three, but there could be more out there. I saw House of the Dead, and it nearly made me lose faith in cinema itself. Horrible wouldn't even describe the pile, let alone put a dent in it. AITD sounded like more of the same, and Bloodrayne received such rave reviews that I assumed most of the critics clawed their eyes out/killed themselves upon completing said 'movie'. He's styled himself as a 'game director', but he's so inept and destructive to the licences he obtains that one prays he never gets his hands on a game you like.

Those are also two games that I need to get around to. When I first saw the FPS Metroid approach, I was skeptical. Both games' impressive success has more than swayed me concerning the choice though. Metroid was always a solid boss oriented game, seeing as how the franchise has never lost touch with its roots. I've been a fan of the series since 8-bit, so I know I'll enjoy those as well. Thank you for your opinion, miniduck.

Oh yes I know the fella, the best part of house of the dead was the bits of the actual game they had spliced through the movie, I mean wtf was with that retarded pirate thing at the end?

Alone in the dark was retarded to, god I don't even want to get into it. You'd think a movie with a sex scene with tara reid in it would be good, but somehow the director managed to fuck THAT up!

And the only part of blood rayne I watched was the sex scene, it's all that appealed to me.

Where just lucky he never got his hands on resident evil :ughnoes:

well i love the arcade version of House of the Dead, it's so damn fun, and i was so exicited when i heard that a movie was being made, but then i saw it and :tear:. it was the gayest thing ever. i remember in the game the house was a huge mansion, but in the movie it was a little shack(literally). the whole movie sucked balls, no one good thing about it.

when i saw previews of Alone in the Dark, i just decided i was not going to watch it, it looked pretty gay, and from what i hear it sucked so, good thing i didn't watch it.

bloodrayne looked sort of interesting, but it just seems alot like underworld, or even blade, the same kinda of stunts, and supernatural feel. but hey i might just check it out later.

oh and yeah i agree chesti. good thing he didn't do resident evil, because apart from Zelda, Resident Evil is my favorite series, i liked both movies, although they could have done them better.

Not to familiar with the Zelda series. Resident evil has taken a wierd turn though, from what I read about it, it sounds not to zombish.

lol best quote from the movie is Mike Epps:

"GTA mutha fucka!" *runs over zombie* :bowroflarms: :bowroflarms:

oh yeah that was Resident Evil Outbreak, those are side series games, they are not major titles, just additions, i played both Resident Evil Outbreak 1 and 2, and they were alright, but not too good. RE 4 got game of the year last year and really good reviews.

here is a link to all the info about it. http://ps2.ign.com/objects/013/013887.html

truly a masterpiece!

I remember doing this on our former home, but it's worth doing it again. Seing as how I'm a Resident Evil superfreak, the series has still had its ups and downs.

RE1(PS1)- The beginning of it all. Creepy ambiance coupled with a full 3-D environment made this a landmark title for the PS1. Ham fisted dialogue has become a cult joke of sorts, and the game itself is definitely in the nostalgic category now. All in all, it's worth a look if you're a late comer to the series.

RE2(PS1)- Some feel this was the best entry of the series. From a storyline point of view, I'm inclined to agree. The settings are incredible, and the game is beyond solid itself. Excellent dialogue this time around is coupled with some of the best storytelling seen in a game to date. It's been polished up(first for the dead Dreamcast, later for the Gamecube), so picking it up if you own the Lunchbox is a worthy purchase for sure.

RE3(PS1)- Following on the heels of such a monumental entry into the series, RE3 held up surprisingly well. I'm a sucker for the 'post-zombie-outbreak-city-in-flames' setting, and this game delivers well on that for sure. New weapons and an extra game mode are a huge plus. Jill Valentine as the protagonist was a very good choice as well. The opening cinematic blew my mind upon its release, and it still holds up well today. A worthy addition to the series.

RE Survivor(PS1)- A horrible attempt at a FPS approach to the RE world. Avoid it like ebola in the groin.

RE Gaiden(GBC)- See above description. Throwing money at this game is like paying a nine year old to kick you in the crotch. Repeatedly. With a flaming shoe.

RE Code Veronica(DC)/CV X(PS2)- Code Veronica first appeared on the now defunct Dreamcast. Believe it or not, I was ramped up to purchase the system just for that game. Thankfully, an updated version with extra content hit the PS2, Code Veronica X. As next gen forays go, this one's not bad at all. Again, solid gameplay coupled with funky camera angles ruled the day. Weapons were good, as were the characters(playing as Chris Redfield was a huge plus), and the graphics had received a noticeable shot in the arm. Where this game falls short though is in the story. The first real RE game to get away from Raccoon City had questionable results in said department. All in all, since I don't think you could find this game priced over $20, it's worth a run for sure.

RE 1 Remake(GC)- Masterpiece. Pure and simple. A plethora of new game features are added, with the countermeasures system coming in at number one for me. INCREDIBLE graphics coupled with intense sound is awesomely done. Bad dialogue is gone, but the jump moments are back. Seriously, this title made me yell in surprise and fear a couple of times, which is a rare occurrance. Play it; if you don't have a gamecube, snap one up to get it. Seriously, it's that good. Greatest remake/revisioning of all time. Period.

RE 0(GC)- A so-so follow up to the huge bar set by its predecessor. Inventory management this time around seemed overly annoying, and the weapons themselves were so-so. Graphics were once again excellent, but not as pleasing as the GC's previous entry to me. The biggest problem here is, in Code Veronica style, the story. It's much worse here though, which is not to say it's a bad game by any means. A bad Resident Evil title will still beat a lot of games out there in said department. Although this game was in developmental purgatory on the N64 for nearly four years, only to die, so that should tell you something about it as well.

RE 2(GC)- See previous review. Polished graphics of an amazing game. The only downside is most retailers know Nintendo didn't run a lot of these off, so they've remained prickish with their pricing on the title. $40 is not unusual to see. It's worth it though, if you didn't play it on the PS1.

RE 3(GC)- Same as above. Pick it up if you missed the PS1.

RE 2(N64)- Avoid it, for the stupid cartoon smoke effect if for nothing else.

RE Dead Aim(PS2)- Atempt at a RE FPS, part two. While it won't make your eyes bleed, it just feels bland and uninspired. A grasp at the successful House of the Dead franchise(which does NOT include the movie) doesn't translate well here. Survival horror, not shooting gallery here people. Plus, a ship is a lame setting anyway.

RE Deadly Silence(DS)- A port of the origional PS1 title to the DS. It succeeds in one major way; reminding you that RE1 has aged HORRIBLY. A FP knife view coupled with a little 'slash the zombie' minigame isn't enough to justify a purchase here. If you really need to play this game, syick to the PS1. Although if you've bought seventy-three copies of Catcher in the Rye, you'll probably buy this game as well.

RE Outbreak/Outbreak 2(File #2)- These are essentially the same game, so I'll lump them together here. Basic premise is as follows: Take a group of survivors through a stage approach during the chaos in Raccoon City. The first level of Outbreak #1 had me drooling for more, but then the bulk of the game hit. #2 was much the same, although the police station level screamed to the RE freak in me. Problem is, the gameplay itself at this point just felt too dated. Being able to shoot while walking in #2 was a nice addition, but with RE4 taking on all comers on the GC, it was too little, too late. Worth a look in a bargain bin, but not much more.

RE 4(GC)- After a long time in development, and coupled with disturbing rumors of a lack of zombie in this Evil, RE4 hit the GC; and there was great rejoicing in the land. Amazing. Incredible. Nirvana in form. Call it whatever you like, as RE4 fits the bill on all counts. Zombies of a sort are there , but they're more dangerous than ever, regardless of decomposition. One of the greatest parts is the location aiming. No longer will I have to pump five to seven rounds into an enemy, because I'm going to shoot him IN THE FRIGGIN' HEAD. WITH A SHOTGUN. And the people were overcome with joy. Amazingly spot-on AI, incredible graphics, an engrossing story(the best in recent memory), the return of a major character, an awesome protagonist, excellent weapons, a useful knife(?!), genius level design, amazingly well done boss encounters.... need I say more? Oh, and escort missions that DON'T SUCK. Top that, :mbgreddy: laden GTA. Buy it. Play it. Rejoice in its splendor. Video games were created to give RE4 a place to live, straight up.

RE4(PS2)- What more can I say about RE4? Well, there's always more. An excellent added game mode justifies its purchase on the PS2 alone. Another set of extra costumes is a plus, and a couple of new bonus weapons are thrown into the mix as well. The graphics are a little less powerful on the
PS2, but nitpicking over something like that is like clubbing seals; you just don't do it. Honestly, this game is a canidate for a personal best-of-all-time award, and for a child of the nintendo generation(ergo, raised on video games), that's saying something. It's a must play, plain and simple.

So that's what I think about the RE franchise. RE5 looks amazing; hopefully Capcom will stick to the addage, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Viva PS3(when the price is less than a minor surgery...)

Awesome post Onebigeric. I played up to El Gigante in RE4 and I thought it was very good. I want to finish it.

Thanks you guys. RE4 is worth playing through a few times, miniduck; I actually started again not too long ago.

Good call on avoiding the handhelds mexicanmuscle. RE5 does look amazing; seeing the straight up zombies(assume so, due to the druken swaying, etc.) take off like something out of a Rob Zombie video still gives me chills. Capcom has been surprisingly tight lipped about it, but yeah, I'd also pick up a system solely for the game itself.
