Hadi Choopan is still a significant threat in the Men's Open bodybuilding category, even though he did not take part in the 2026 Mr. Olympia. The former champion secured the Sandow Trophy in 2022 and came in second place in 2023, 2024, and 2025. The reason for his failure to attend the 2026 contest was visa-related travel difficulties, not because he had been defeated on stage.

The most recent developments indicate that Choopan is already planning for the future. In October 2026, his coach Milos Sarcev stated that official preparations for the 2027 Arnold Classic had started. This could therefore lead to a potential match against Nick Walker, Samson Dauda, and the other top competitors.

So is it possible for “The Persian Wolf' to win another Mr. Olympia title? Although his competitive record suggests that it might happen, his next competition will give a better show of whether he can challenge the sport's newest champion.

Hadi Choopan's Journey to Becoming Mr. Olympia Champion

Choopan established his reputation by having great muscular density, undergoing thorough conditioning, and being able to show off a complete physique when competing against taller and larger men. His advancement in professional bodybuilding came to a head with his win at the 2022 Mr. Olympia, which made him the first Iranian athlete to secure the prestigious Men's Open title.

In later years, his results confirmed his position among the elite of the division. He came in second place at the Mr. Olympia contests in 2023, 2024, and 2025, showing great consistency at the top level of bodybuilding.

He also secured victory at the Arnold Classic and the Arnold Classic UK in 2024, which further proves his capability of winning important professional contests. Yet the fact that he has so often come in second at the Olympia shows the difficulty he has to overcome: merely being one of the best bodybuilders in the world is not the same as winning the sport's principal title.

Why Hadi Choopan Missed the 2026 Mr. Olympia

Choopan announced that he was withdrawing from the 2026 Mr. Olympia on August 26, on the grounds that visa and travel restrictions had stopped him from getting to the United States. He stated that he had been refused boarding on flights to Dubai after being informed that his UAE visa had been canceled. His intention had been to go to Dubai for a visa interview with the U.S. Embassy before proceeding on to Las Vegas.

The fact that he was absent marked the end of his seven consecutive appearances at the Olympia between 2019 and 2025. It does not indicate that he had lost his competitive ability; he just didn't get the chance to take part in 2026.

The contest occurred on September 26, with Nick Walker winning the title, Samson Dauda coming in second, and Derek Lunsford securing third place. Andrew Jacked finished in fourth position.

What makes Hadi Choopan a serious contender for the Mr. Olympia title?

The main advantages that Choopan still has are his muscular density, his conditioning, and his appearance; his build has a good amount of muscle along with clear definition, which enables him to compete effectively with athletes who may be superior in height or general size.

Another valuable point is his experience. Since he won at the Olympia and has on several occasions challenged for the title, he is aware of the requirements involved in prejudging, mandatory poses, and the finals.

One cannot assume that he will win the championship again. The Men's Open category is still developing, with his competitors improving both their physical condition and their performance on stage. Choopan has to show that he is still capable of producing a winning performance against the present field.

Who has the advantage between Hadi Choopan and Nick Walker?

Nick Walker is now the standard that Choopan has to surpass; he won the 2026 Mr. Olympia with 18 points, narrowly defeating Dauda, who obtained 20.

Recent comments made by bodybuilding experts show that there are conflicting views regarding Choopan's chances. On October 16, the experienced bodybuilder Dennis James stated that the 2027 Arnold Classic might turn into a rivalry between Walker and Choopan, the reason being that Choopan's mandatory break could leave him fresher for the competition.

On October 19, Lee Priest gave a more pessimistic evaluation. He believed that Walker could win the 2027 Arnold Classic on the grounds that his conditioning had improved sufficiently to be able to challenge Choopan's usual advantage in that respect. Moreover, Priest also stated that Choopan might still carry out well under coach Milos Sarcev.

They are merely expert opinions, not results that have been confirmed. The conclusive evidence will be available when both athletes have appeared on stage together.

Hadi Choopan's Road Back: The 2027 Arnold Classic

The most significant point is that Choopan now has a definite competitor. Sarcev stated on October 6 that preparations for the 2027 Arnold Classic had actually begun. The competition will take place from March 4 to 7, 2027, in Columbus, Ohio. Walker and Andrew Jacked are also expected to take part, which means the event will be a major trial for Choopan's comeback.

He should prioritize keeping his usual conditioning, achieving a well-balanced muscular development, and making it to the end of the competitive break in good health; just as important, his travel documents must be secured early to prevent one more missed opportunity.

The fact that a man gave a strong performance at Arnold Classic doesn't mean that he will become the next Mr. Olympia, but it does serve as valuable evidence that he is capable of beating the current generation of competitors.

Can Hadi Choopan regain the Mr. Olympia title?

It is true that Choopan does have a realistic chance of reaching the top again, but the result is still uncertain. His championship record and three second-place finishes show he can challenge for bodybuilding's most important award.

The problem is that Walker has already been set as the 2026 champion, with Dauda, Lunsford, and Jacked still being strong competitors. Choopan will have to show that his physique is equal to or better than theirs according to the present judging criteria.

His appearance at the upcoming Arnold Classic will be a good show of his current form, level of conditioning, and readiness to compete; and if he comes back in top form and sorts out the logistical problems which kept him from attending the Olympia, then winning another Sandow Trophy will be possible.

At the moment, the most accurate judgment is that Choopan's comeback is underway, but whether he can regain the Mr. Olympia title will depend on his performance on stage, not on what he has achieved in the past.

Hadi's experience and conditioning speak for themselves. If he nails his peak, another Sandow isnt impossible.

People seem to forget that Hadi finished second at three straight Olympias before missing 2026. It's not like he suddenly dropped out of the top five. If he comes back with his usual conditioning, I wouldn't be surprised to see him fighting for the title again.
