^^ Lol

I need to improve my C&J a lot. Goal is 100kg snatch, 120kg C&J which is easy sets of two with 80kg and 100kg for 80%. That would leave plenty in the bag for lifting at the state competition and allow me to qualify for nationals. From there I could proceed to get my ass kicked by international level lifters, but it would be great!

Tim you must qualify for the nationals, fail is not an option HERE!!! That state competition should be easy for you, and as you might know, Team Mecca is behind you, and every other competitor here! Go go mr C&J :headbang:

^^ Thanks Dan!

I'm not sure how I'd go in an actual competition. There is a big difference between lifting and competing. On the plus side that last state comp (Fed Cup) the heaviest total for a 85kg guy was only 180kg. I could smoke that total right now. But the state 85kg champ has just gone up a weight division so it is kinda deceptive as he was international level. Wouldn't take much to come up against some guys that are national or international level that are changing weight divisions.

Anyways trained last night. Better snatch session than the one in the gym the other day. Probably helps not to have driven a few hundred kilometres that day.

I'm actually a bit lighter now than I have been sitting at 85kg (dry morning weight). This is partly concerning and partly good. The concerning part is that I'm not sure whether this is fat loss or muscle loss. My chest and shoulders do look more defined, but I have lost 1/2" off my arm.

I love that your workouts are very varied and seem so perfectly put together... besides being very hardcore. Just shows your knowledge in the subject.
Great workout log man, I've learned quite a few things. I might use some of your training patterns if you don't mind :p

^^ Thanks dude. You take whatever ideas you want. I didn't invent any of this stuff, and my training will continue to evolve as I find the right balance only to have the balance point shift again.....

some interesting routines here. i'm going to have to flame you for not doing excercises and sets/reps designed to get you HYOOOGE. if you're not training to get HYOOOGE, you should just give up imo.

i kid, got some good weight there and i'm sure you have some of the most functional strength out of anyone here on the board. i bet your routines, on top of being highly functional, are also fun because your always doing different stuff. good job :headbang:

^^ I'll probably have one of the only threads here where I want to lose some mass! It's hard to get heaps of strength gains when I'm eating at maintenance. That's why most of the programs revolve around balanced structure.

But the current program is mainly aimed at gaining strength so that I can compete in the state weightlifting champs and qualify for the nationals.

I need to change the thread title to "Road to the State Champs".

Goal is anything over a 100kg snatch and 120kg C&J. Considering how light the 105kg clean and front squat last night was I'm well on track for more than that.

Skeptic: The date is still TBA, but I'm guessing it will be similar to last year, so July-August.

Samoan: :bowroflarms: No it won't be covered in any way what-so-ever by the media. In fact I doubt that the nationals will get more than a passing mention in some of the muscle mags. If I'm there competing I'll make sure that I get photos and video. By the sounds of it the club coaches tape the event anyway for coaching reasons.

Dridz: Yeh I'm a fan of donkey calf raises because they are one of the few that allow you to use big weights without the spinal loading. That's something I'm becoming more concious of as I spend more of the work day sitting down.

Ok I don't want to get too ahead of myself. A lot can happen between now and then. I've set my goals, but I have to be realistic. It is a few months and I have a fair few technique flaws that I need to correct (getting good elbow lockout on every snatch rep, racking the bar cleanly at the shoulder every rep). If I want to compete I have to get those sorted or I'll bomb any meet. Plus I took last night off as my shoulder was doing an involuntary twitch all day (just one little muscle, felt weird and is usually related to training overload). If I compete I want to be totaling low to mid 200's so that I am top ten in Aust. This is not out of my reach (hell I could total 190-200kg right now), but it does mean I can't have niggling injuries setting me back. And I have to decide whether I want to chance it in the 94kg or diet down a little to be in the 85kg division. Dieting down is the closer objective but could hamper my progress more, but the 94kg does mean I'll be at the lower end of the weight category.

Anyway, thanks for the input guys. Stay tuned and feel free to offer up any tips, questions, advice, or random comments.

Ben: yep I'm more motivated in my training already. All my previous goals haven't had the same importance.

Samoan: yeh I wish there was more coverage of strength sports in general but then again that is why we are here and not watching TV.

^^ Hey Jono, the hammys are getting better. They seem fine on hip extension and those exercises are getting close to what they were before. But the knee flexion is still well off where it was, although it is improving rapidly. I am noticing that I'm not pulling with my hammys like I should be on snatches and cleans.

Tonight was nicer than this arvo, which was hot and humid. The thunderstorm and rain cleared that up nicely, but did mean it was raining when I was training. I'm going to have to work on max singles for the snatch and C&J starting soon. Not 100% how I'll integrate that and whether I should do max sets on accessories.
