I agree Rocky, I really enjoyed Unleashed. It had a good feel to it with Morgan Freeman and Bob Hoskins in it. It was also good to see Jet Li showing depth as a character.

Although as the missus pointed out, his transformation was a little too easy.

Those Saw films were written and made by a couple of film students from Australia (Lee Wanel actually has a blink and you miss it role in The Matrix 2). They had an audience in mind and made it only for that audience.

Line, have you seen Pan's Labyrinth? I tried to watch it tonight but when I get slightly comfortable and the lights are out, I WILL fall asleep no matter what. :49:

I'll argue about the Saw films later in the afternoon.

But yes, Pan's Labyrinth was the best film of 2006, and it likely falls into my top 100 of all time.

Weird thing, I put in Mulholland Drive last night and noticed the regular-release DVD doesn't have chapter stops. That David Lynch is one tricky bastard.

Why bother arguing? I'm not going to read your diatribe and change my mind as to whether i enjoyed it or not. I admit the follow-ups were weaker and the prospect of Saw 4 out this year doesn't exactly fill me with joy. :uhoh2:

Is that Mulholland Drive the recent Special Edition version you bought? I haven'ts seen the film yet but now the SE is out I might be tempted.

Whether you enjoyed it or not doesn't make it a good film (see: Dirty Work). Regardless, I guess I won't waste my time; I just except some plausibility when it comes to films that take place in a natural realm; even horror ones.

The version of MD I got is just the regular one because I wasn't even aware there was an SE out. I suppose it's not really a film I'm only going to watch in pieces though so I think excluding chapter stops wasn't a horrible move. Speaking of which, I really can't see them putting chapter stops in for INLAND EMPIRE now.

When you put it like that about Saw I understand where you're coming from - however I appreciated that it took what can be a tricky and these days, tired, genre and managed to do something a bit different and for the most past had the courage of it's own convictions to see it through. It may have been trying to be a bit too clever for it's own good but it was stillcleverer than the majority of horrors out there.

I almost bought a copy of 'Pirates' today (that's right - paying for porn!) as it was cheap, but not sure whether it's worth it. There's no anal for a start! Has anyone watched the whole thing and is it worth it?

You've been watching some fairly good picks lately, MM but I'm not sure I get this description at all...

:uhoh2:

thanks man, i just like watching a shit load of movies.

my bad, i really don't even know why i wrote it.:food-snacking:

here are two i have seen recently:

Catch and Release- decent movie, that's really all i have to say other than Jennifer Garner is hot.

The Painted Veil- great movie, Edward Norton did an amazing job, loved the settings, I hated Naomi Watt's character, and was a bit dissapointed with the ending, but it was still a great movie.

Alfonso Cuaron ("Children of Men"), Guillermo del Toro ("Pan's Labyrinth"), Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu ("Babel") are putting together a production company. And they're doing 5 different films together worth like $100 million.

2 top films! Burt Reynolds when he was good.

So I took 'Pirates' back to the shop. It wasn't the XXX version so it was all soft-core rubbish. Must have looked really good - local policeman goes to local videoshop to return porn with the reason that it wasn't the hardcore version I was expecting. My reputation is assured.
