ye would be cool seeing him train for a squat max the same way, just to see if he can do it. 405 for 3 after such short time is extremely impressive though. he is indeed a genetic behemoth. it looked like it was easy for him aswell. could prolly have done 1-2 more.

I had major knee surgery and atrophied away 15% of my bodyweight and had to learn to walk again. I have done this. :talkhand:

wow thats some progress. Kevin is the man. i wonder what his next move is..
Well, he could do the same experiment for legs - squat to be exact. But that ain't happening.

There's always option x: up the dosage and do it one more time.

You aren't meant to continue the argument after you have lost Chewie. :gaysign:

Why do you keep on going? First, you're making yourself look even more than a douche than you already are. Second, your initial post to him was irrelevant to what he was saying.

So he benches roughly double what he squats, kinda lame. Give him props for the depth though.

And where did Tim mention that he can get back as quick as Kevin did? He's just saying the guy needs to actually squat. Suggesting Kevin needs to squat /= Thinking he can get back as quick as Kevin did.

You're probably upset because you don't free weight squat.

If you touch the bar you are helping or being helped.

Unless you are doing as his spotter was doing (standing back watching) then it is not "all you!"

when i say that i have my hands hovering the bar incase they fail but i only say it when im not helping. So you cant say " all you " unless your standing back and watching? thats lame, i help out a lot of my friends who are begginners and they need someone ready not standing back.

I like doing freeweight squats. I like the feeling, i like the motion... But if someone has good leg development, who gives a shit if they do squats or not? maybe they cant get the hang of it, maybe their knees bug them because they just cant get the propper motion and dont wanna deal with wrapping. Levrone is strong but he is not a powerlifter, he is a bodybuilder and if he can get his legs to grow in a safe way then more power to him.

I've been this guy, I've also seen this guy, so I can quite comfortably say that lifting in this manner doesn't help. Check the ego and get control of the bar, it shouldn't come as a sudden shock to either the lifter or the spotter when the lift has been missed. Hovering just means either the lifter or spotter has no judgement.

I understand your point and I partially agree, no single exercise is that important. But lets also look at the alternatives that are used to replace the squat in modern gyms, namely the leg ext and leg press. The leg ext is just not a good exercise for anything. The leg press seems to be more about how many plates you add to the thing rather than doing a leg exercise. The number of times I've seen skinny legged guys load up a leg press until it is full is amazing. I can count on one hand the number of squats I've personally seen over 180kg/400lb. Guess which guys had better legs, the ones on the fully loaded leg press or the guys with a fraction of the weight on their shoulders!!

I'm also sick of that old "knees hurt" nugget. As previously stated in this thread I've had a full knee reconstruction with a meniscectomy and have never had a problem with squats (leg ext I was told not to use until I was fully recovered, so I haven't used one at all as they clearly can't be good for the knees if they don't want you to use them in rehab).

I'm also sick of the "it's hard to learn the form" nugget. You know I don't think anyone should bother learning to walk, it is really complicated. Lets just give everyone a wheelchair. We have to learn to do all sorts of things and it takes work. If everything was simple to do and learn there wouldn't be anything worth doing.

Last time i checked, my friends and i arent powerlifters and it isnt about the lift being missed or not, its about not being able to get it up sometimes. In a particular set on a particular rep, they may fail which seems to be the case when you're pushing your limits. I hover over the bar when im unsure of their ability to keep going and if they cant get it up anymore ill spot them and maybe help them get through a few more reps.

Leg extensions and leg presses are great when used propperly. I agree, too many people just like stacking plates or moving the pin on heavy ass extentions.

You seem to have missed my point. Missing a lift is the same thing as "not getting it up". If you are helping to perform a rep or "getting a couple more" is actually training past failure. This is ok once in a training cycle before a deload or week off, but not most training days.

As for failing and pushing limits, I can understand in young lifters (training age) not knowing enough about how much they have in them and when to call a set. But to anyone who is regularly missing a lift this means you are eating into your recovery ability, especially your CNS recovery. This leads to burnout. Younger or less experienced trainers will notice this less, especially if they aren't as strong. It does, however, limit progress.

And I don't know why you would assume that I am a PLer or that my ethos or that my advice is based upon trying to convert you to PLing.
