^^ Yep deload hasn't hurt me at all. What is hurting is all of these hot days. I'm going to do a quick analysis at work, but I'm pretty sure we have had more days and more hours of those days above 40°C this summer than has ever been recorded (there is 110yrs of data at the local weather station). Makes for some pretty shit days to train. I was looking at getting a portable airconditioner to stick out near my rack so I can train without dropping dead from dehydration and heat exhaustion.

First ever deadlift session that has involved a belt. I actually took up deadlifting after I ditched belts, so it was interesting to try it out. I didn't like it. Only used it on one set and found I had to stand up between reps (after rep 6) to stop it squashing my middle and pushing my air out. Chalk on the other hand was great, I can't believe it has taken me this long to get some more, I managed 5 reps overhand before switching to mixed grip at 157.5kg, no slippage in any of those reps.

C&J
40kg x5
60kg x2
80kg x2
90kg x2 - light and easy. Doing these full squat style didn't trouble me at all. I'd have to be good for 100-110kg right now.

Deadlift
100kg x5
120kg x5
137.5kg x5
157.5kg x10 - if I wasn't seeing stars at rep 9 I would have gone for 12, plus the belt was digging in at the bottom.

SL leg curls
23kg x4 2 sets - calves were cramping and couldn't do them

Standing calf raises
140kg x15 2 sets - didn't feel good, no cramp but I was favouring my left foot.

Sounds like your belt might have been too tight.

Ben: I'm not sure. It felt right when I came up a bit and it was fine for squats. It was only in the bottom at the initial pull position that it dug into my belly too much.

Jono: Yep it was a gain in reps on the deadlift for weight and reps.

My belt is often uncomfortable to wear and leaves some nasty bruising usually, but as long as it feels good when I lift I don't worry.

Awesome DB rows too old fella.

Pickle: I was done by the time I got fatmans. The high rep DB rows had killed me and I was pouring in sweat (it was 39°C when I trained, which was a lot cooler than the 45°C it had been).

PV: Hope so. It better not suck too much longer. I might look at changing some of my accessories on shoulders day.

ElFreako: Good to know. It didn't bruise, so it should be fine. I just think that the belt and wraps are definitely low rep tools. They may be getting used on +85% and +95% sets respectively, but under Wendler's program guide that is still higher reps for me at the moment. I guess I should ditch them aside until I'm only hitting 3 reps or less. Although I think the belt has been great for squats at +85%, feel much more upright and strong out of the hole.

Squat day today. It was also much cooler today, it only reached 36°C.

Warmups

Mowing the lawn

Complexes

Snatches
20kg x5
40kg x5
60kg x2
70kg x2
80kg x2 - felt good but a little off balance, no-where near as good as my C&J at the moment.

ATG Squat
80kg x5
100kg x3

107.5kg x3
122.5kg x3
137.5kg x8 - belt and wraps. Wraps were a first time use and shouldn't have used them. Needed to undo them after the first couple of reps, low reps only for those puppies. Probably had another rep in me but the pause to unwrap took it out of me.

Front squat
65kg x10 4 sets

supersetted with

GM
65kg x12 4 sets

Standing calf raise
105kg x20 2 sets - left calf has a lump in it (not sure if it is a calcified bruise or what) and left foot is still an issue.

Xiva: thanks :tiphat:

Bulky: I'm feeling better on the squatting, another cycle and I might shoot for a 1RM and see if it is a PB.

Shoulder pressing today. Decided to mix things up a bit, dips and chins have been dropped for the moment.

Warmups

Standing OHP
20kg x10
40kg x5

47.5kg x3
55kg x3
62.5kg x7 - this is a rep better than my first cycle week 3 (i.e. 5% better than 2 weeks ago), happy with that.

Behind the neck jerk
62.5kg x8 2 sets - these were tough after rep 5 both sets.

Pullups
11.5kg x10 2 sets
5kg x10 2 sets
BW x10 2 sets

Pushups
20kg x18 2 sets

Benno: I'm not holding my breath.

Deadlifting was average tonight, and the jerk didn't seem to come as easy as the clean, probably because of the shoulder session yesterday.

Lance and Jono: I'm thinking the C&J would be good for 110kg, hard to say as for the first time ever I'm getting a full squat clean easily enough and struggling with the jerk.

Bench session this evening went ok. I'll probably dive right into week 3 tomorrow as they will be the last "cool" days this week (as in less than 40°C).

To all climate change skeptics: I was in a meeting this afternoon with our organisation's climate scientists and presented some stats on this summer in my area, which can be summarised as the hottest average maxima for January and February ever (37°C) with zero rainfall (we usually average ~33°C and 15mm of rainfall each month). I was expecting a few surprised sounds, but instead was greeted with "well that means we are right on track with the predicted climate change for WA summers". It's happening people!!

Anyway on to the workout.

Bench
60kg x5
80kg x5

92.5kg x3
105kg x3
117.5kg x6 - tried for 7th rep but only got it halfway up.

Thick bar DB row
45kg x20 3 sets - holy need-to-lay-down Batman!

DB bench press - sick of inclines
40kg x12 2 sets

Wrist curls
20kg x15 3 sets - supinated
20kg x20 3 sets - pronated

Plate OH tricep ext
23kg x17 2 sets

BB bicep curl
40kg x8
