Essensen I'm not really doing the CG lockouts for mass or anything. I want an exercise for triceps, one that won't mess up my elbow, and one that prepares me for handling heavier weights.
See I have improved my strength and am set for a PB attempt soon. But over the course of the last training cycle I haven't lifted/held/ unracked anything heavy. It was a huge effort to unrack the first CG set last night, a weight I'm meant to be surpassing on a normal bench press.
Even conservatively I should be able to press 10% more than I pin press, yet that felt really heavy. So I need to acclimatise to the weight and I will do similar with the squat. Deadlift doesn't bother me as much for some reason.
In terms of CG lockouts being a mass builder? Well they definitely add strength, but being a short ROM the carryover to mass and general strength will be limited. Higher reps is definitely the go with any partial to get some benefit. I've found floor presses are fine with lower reps, but not lockouts nor low stepups.
Cheers Tonka. I'm really liking what I'm able to do with my chinups now. A bit of work on getting muscle recruitment happening and I can actually get my lower traps involved in the chin. This has really helped with my shoulders and keeping them healthy.
Speaking of healthy, I'm feeling anything but. I must have a flu as I have a slight fever and just feel generally crap. So my training today has involved sucking down a heap of carbs and sleeping most of the afternoon. Definitely taking the day off tomorrow.
